@nickgillespie I would be more interested to know median household assets of the UWS or any other neighborhood. A HHI of $500K is likely worse off than a family earning $150K with significant inherited wealth.

'“I think we’re middle class for this area,” Mr. O’Leary said.' In fact, per a link in the article: median household income in 2023 for their neighborhood was $155,710; for the city as a whole, $79,480. Why do so many people live in fantasyworlds abt their own wealth?

@tajiktankie @PaulSkallas Which dishes are you comparing? Kebab and breakfasts are similar. But I don’t know any Turkish recipes like ghormeh sabzi, fesenjoon, saffron chicken and barberry chicken etc etc

@AliceFromQueens Yes. But a key element of pricing in taco by markets is that everyday (rather every few days) taco does not happen, the market incrementally prices in a non-taco probability. We’re at the point where Trumps bombast pronouncements are getting faded within the hour of the pop

@conorsen @bobbyfijan These are not even accurate representations. Central Park in NYC and (I think) Piedmont Park in Atlanta are always full of kids in good weather. If the 2nd pic is Dolores in SF, it has a kids playground which was full when I went there

@bobbyfijan I guess I could spin this as “Suburbs have incorporated many of the best qualities of cities (amenities, drive-to walkability) while keeping the qualities of suburbia that families with kids value.”

Alright gym people and literally everyone else. I did something today that I am very proud of, not even my mother could ruin my day with this one. I DID MY FIRST UNASSISTED PULL-UP! No it wasn’t perfect or beautiful but I did it and was so excited I almost cried a little (but I didn’t) but I did jump around like an idiot.

Saudi Arabia is booking more and more super oil tankers at sky high rates (>$450,000 a day vs pre-war levels of $100,000 a day) to shift crude from the Red Sea into global markets.
Bloomberg@business

Saudi Arabia’s biggest oil shipper has been booking tankers at sky-high rates, as a massive armada is on its way to load the kingdom’s crude from the Red Sea in a workaround to a standstill in the Strait of Hormuz bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

It is now clear to me that we have, in fact, made parenting too complicated. No 7 y/o needs to go to London and have a conversation about municipal finance

@ashkan @ProfessorPape “Eventually” in what time frame? The Iranians I know all hate the administration but say opposing it right now is not the time since it’s about the Iranian people’s dignity and national sovereignty at the moment

What differs is a majority of the local population does not support the regime and will NOT fight on behalf of it. So the USA and IDF will chip away at the leadership and if they sustain, it will eventually fall. It's not Iraq let alone Vietnam. 20% support the govt (5-10% on religious grounds, 10-15% IRGC/economic determinism) but the leadership itself is small.

The Iran war is already following a pattern seen in many modern conflicts. Early military success. Then escalation. Then a widening war no one originally planned. Across history, the same strategic mechanics keep appearing. Here are five concepts that explain how wars like this expand.
