Also, because mine is ultimately a literary-oriented account, I should point out that Kurt Vonnegut had to hand-illustrate an asshole because his publisher would not include a photo and damned if Anthropic didn’t rip that off, too.

So, they studied the ‘08 playbook on “too big to fail” then crammmed AI into everything whether we wanted it or not, convinced the control junkies in Washington this was their fix for permanent power, and told struggling businesses “adopt or die.” But now they’re realizing people don’t want this crap. That we aren’t paying premiums for it. That maybe they shouldn’t have built their business model on theft and putting us all out of work. That we will cancel services rather than put up with it or pay them. Now they want bailouts. Fuck ‘em.

@FixinDC @SizweLo "But ultimately, YOU are responsible for where YOU are right now." Tell that to the people born disabled or into poverty. The idea that structure has no bearing on individual outcomes is just such a stupid position to take. Pure copium.

Morty: Capitalism gives everyone a chance to get rich if they just work hard enough. Rick: Oh my god, Morty! Capitalism doesn't work if everyone wins. It needs poverty to function. Someone has to take the low-paying jobs so the profits keep flowing upward. If everyone had real financial security, no one would take those positions and the system would collapse. Morty: But Rick, that's just how the market works. Some people earn more because they provide more value. Rick: Tell that to the kid assembling your iPhone overseas for pennies while some CEO makes millions off it. Capitalism doesn't reward work, it rewards ownership. You don't climb the ladder by working hard, you climb it by owning the ladder. The workers collectively produce infinitely more value than some shareholder living in the Bahamas. Morty: Okay, but isn't it about freedom People can still move up if they make good choices. Look at people who came from nothing and became successful, like entrepreneurs or celebrities. Rick: Those are exceptions, idiot. That's why they're on TV. For every one person who makes it out, millions stay stuck because they never had the same luck, connections, or safety nets. The system needs those stories so people believe it's fair.

@micpewpew Pick up Ars Magica, and play the troupe system. Each in turn get to be the GM for one session, and players get to play different characters every session—all within the same Convent. It's literally a TTRPG boot camp. AND it's a blast!

Being a player in D&D is so boring. Mostly sitting there. I don’t understand why we have a DM shortage. Everyone should be clamoring for that role. Far superior gaming experience.

@ZidaneD84096 @Noctisvelt What does that even mean? Is it just "your spin" or do Christians in general believe they can baptise long-dead people now? Like, you go to Ramagrama, open the Buddha's casket, baptise the ashes and boom—the Buddha is now a Christian in Heaven?

@Noctisvelt EVen though I'm not Christian the first thing I would've told them to do after calling the authorities is order a mass baptism cause when you see something like you feel bones down you're spin and you don't want any of that bad luck catching on to you

In May 1945, at the end of WWII, thousands of Axis-aligned soldiers and civilians were executed without trial by Yugoslav Partisans and sealed inside the Barbara Pit coal mine in Slovenia. This chilling photograph was captured in March 2009, when investigators finally breached the concrete walls mended by the communist regime to hide the crime. Over 1,400 victims were uncovered, preserved for decades in total darkness.

Do you worry about your 'boring' chapters? Not every bit of your story can be non-stop action. The bridging scenes have to be there for everything to make sense. But if you aren't excited about writing these bits, surely your reader will lose interest...

No. You didn’t read because you were dissociating or had ADHD; you read because books are a wonderful thing that enriched your life. Finding twisted motives for life’s greatest pleasures will make you miserable. We need to quit pathologizing the things that bring us joy.
꧁༒☬ 𝔾𝕒𝕓𝕣𝕚𝕖𝕝 ☬༒꧂@Gabbrielxzn

Remember being that little kid who read all day, whenever you could? Devoured books like nobody's business? Turns out we were probably undiagnosed ADHD or autistic just using reading as an escape from the sensory nightmare around us 👀

@ManFirestorm @AgrivarDragon I agree. When I run First Edition AD&D at the game store, we have people young and old coming up to the table to look at the terrain at first, but then they stay and watch us play for a bit, and some even return with questions after we're done.

@AgrivarDragon I’ve been running AD&D 1e games in an after school program for 5 years. Old school gaming, deadly, immersive and challenging. They love it. They’ve just had their expectations set by popular shows like CR, once they try old school, it’s addictive. The kids are alright

Not looking for sympathy, just making a statement. Where I live, hobby store Dungeons & Dragons is dead. The younger players (20-30 year old) want slap stick power fantasy one shot games. I am not saying that they are wrong, but it seems to be the modern take on the hobby. More importantly they want to play the game remotely from home via computers. For me, as much as I love Dungeons & Dragons, my local community is pushing me towards more compact non-roleplaying games like Warhammer and Battletech. I worry about the future of the game. Perhaps this is just the natural evolution of a fifty year old hobby.

In the first frame of her video, the Templo Mayor has twin stairways—like it should—but it stands right next to the shore? Later in the same video, the Templo Mayor is no longer next to the water... but now it only has one stairway?

@A_DungeonDelver It's very real, but it's temporary. Those players will learn. First time I set foot on a pitch, I realized I *wasn't* Michel Platini or Diego Maradona. "Oh, it's not as easy as it looked. I'll have to work on it—"

Yeah the Matt Mercer Effect is 100% real. D&D Horror Stories on reddit is littered with "the DM tried to be matt mercer" or "the problem player complained that the game wasn't just like critical role". And that's what we KNOW of. Yes the Matt Mercer effect is very, very real.
Nerdcognito@Nerdcognito

The Matt Mercer effect is very real, yet the pop gaming media continues to deny it. Critical Role presents a polished, directed performance by celebrity voice actors w high production values; not actual play. Mercer is a terrible standard for real DMs.

@DarthPedro99 @osgamer74 Even MORE so back in the '70s and '80s. My parents, grandparents, uncles and aunts, even my friends' parents: everyone had better things to talk about. I honestly don't remember hearing a political conversation until the mid '90s.

@YoDanno Not heroes per se, but lovable 'picaresque' adventurers/reluctant heroes with not much to lose. In that regard, Brancalonia is very much AD&D-esque; the only thing it lacks are images of PCs being killed by random monsters.

As a DM, I don’t run campaigns with evil PCs. I get that some folks might like it, but for us, it’s all about being heroes. As a player, last time I played where there was one evil thief in a group of good characters, I didn’t make past 3 sessions… too much in party fighting because of it. What say you?

So what did Vikings really look like? TV/movies tell us they looked like dollar-store biker gangs, wearing black leather, covered in dirt and allergic to colours... but in reality... they looked like 1970s pop singers. Seriously, thread time.🧵 Photo: Roberto Fortuna
