It does, but it also begs the question of the quality, or lack thereof, offered by the alternative.
Claire Lehmann expressed the view, I think in the first Trump term, that the only thing the Republicans or Democrats would have to do to dominate American politics for a generation is "not be crazy". It is apparently too high a bar for either of them. Though a plurality of the reasonable exists in this country, there is no party under which they can unite.
English

We could argue that Trump 1 was a one-off, a freak occurrence. But electing him *twice*? Raises reasonable questions about what kind of electorate would do that.

The drop in global perceptions of the US is 100% because of Donald Trump. Clear as day.

@RichardGrenell You sure about that? Because there is some real Nazi-adjacent stink in the disaffected white working class MAGA imported into the Republican Party from the Democratic Party.
English

Working class people don’t get Nazi tattoos that they have to coverup later in life…
Elizabeth Warren@ewarren
Graham Platner's got the grit to fight for what’s right on behalf of Maine’s working families—not billionaires and giant corporations. He’s inspired a grassroots movement to flip Maine, and I’m thrilled to endorse @grahamformaine for Senate.
English

@TheSWPrincess This is just wierd. Like a Walter Mitty type daydream for a MAGA wannabe Sgt. York.
English

Markwayne Mullin has never served a day in the U.S. military.
No enlistment. No deployment. No combat.
But he talks about the “smell of war,” hints at secret missions, and lets people think he’s a combat veteran.
That’s not honor - that’s stolen valor-adjacent BS.
Real vets earned their stories. He’s role-playing theirs.
Cosplaying war doesn’t make you a warrior.

You and Dems like Talarico are why we are stuck with a skunk like Trump. As bad as he is, and he is bad, you are worse. A sensible Australian woman observed years ago that the only thing Republicans or Democrats would have to do to dominate politics for a generation or more is not be crazy. The MAGA faction on one side and you on the other constantly remind the sensible that this low bar remains too high a hurdle for either party to clear.

BREAKING: Trump attacks Texas Democrat James Talarico — and gets a FIERY sermon in response that he won’t forget
Donald Trump thought he could score cheap political points by calling James Talarico an “insult to Jesus” because the Texas Democratic Senate candidate is “beyond woke” and believes that God does not discriminate on the basis of gender.
Unfortunately for Dementia Don, he picked the wrong person. Standing in a Black church in Texas, Talarico didn’t just clap back — he delivered a moral reckoning.
“The president of the United States just said that I insulted Jesus,” Talarico began. “You want to know what insults Jesus? Kicking the sick off their health care while cutting taxes for billionaires.”
And that was only just the start.
“You know what insults Jesus?” he continued. “Deporting the stranger and separating babies from their mothers.”
Then he went even further — taking aim at war, corruption, and hypocrisy.
“You know what insults Jesus? Bombing innocent school children in Iran and sending our brave men and women off to die in another forever war… Covering up the Epstein files and then refusing to prosecute a single person in them.”
This wasn’t politics as usual. This was a full-on moral indictment.
Talarico — who has been attacked by Trump for supporting transgender Americans and saying “trans children are God’s children” — flipped the script entirely. Instead of backing down, he grounded his message in the very teachings Trump tried to weaponize.
“I am not a perfect Christian,” he said. “There’s only been one perfect Christian and he was crucified on a cross 2,000 years ago.”
And then came the line that hit hardest: “Jesus told us to love our neighbors as ourselves… Can we imagine war in heaven? Can we imagine bigotry in heaven? Can we imagine poverty in heaven? Then why do we tolerate these things on earth?”
That’s how you respond. Not with insults. Not with fear. But with clarity — and conviction.
Trump tried to smear him. Instead, Talarico delivered a sermon that’s now echoing far beyond that church.
Please like and share James Talarico’s inspiring words!

@3YearLetterman This is a Billiken. And its easily going to hang well over a hundred on us tonight.Turn the Steg into a parking lot. Call it a day. Play football.

@RepBuddyCarter You wanted to rename Greenland Red White and Blueland. And then there is Epstein. So I may not agree with Ossoff on every issue, but at least he hasn't made a clown out of himself....whereas you have.

@willchamberlain I think Edmund Burke would discourage one from working for this DOJ, both on principle and as career advice.

Best time to graduate from law school that I can recall if you are remotely right-wing. You can go straight from law school into DOJ. You'd be a fool not to go for it

I’m just going to say this — had Mexican soldiers invaded across the USA’s southern border on 10/7/2023 to rape and murder their way across part of Texas, then paraded the corpses of dead, naked American women around like trophies for the Mexican civilian population to spit on, by 10/7/2024, Mexico as an independent country would have ceased to exist — and no one would have said a word in protest.
No one tells non-Jewish nations that they must turn the other cheek after acts of war. Only Israel is expected to meekly bury her dead; only Jews are supposed to constantly mourn, but never to retaliate; to accept butchery and brutality and bombings as the price they must pay for mere existence — and it has far less to do with Palestinian lives than it does with the age-old European conviction that Jews only exist so that the rest of society has someone to abuse.

@KarenWinters3 As the saying goes, its not the things you don't know that will get you. It's the things you think you know that ain't so.

The Governor's office isn't for sale. Another rich candidate has entered the race. Another check written to a campaign that exists to serve exactly one person. Like all the other wealthy candidates.
I'm just a girl from Goose Creek. Dropped out of Stratford High School. Worked the Waffle House. Slowly, but surely made my way. Earned every single step.
South Carolina doesn't need a Governor who purchased the office. It needs one who was built for it.
South Carolina STRONG.

@Chesterwood137, it was the same Roberts Court whose vilification you are cheerleading that put an end to those nationwide injunctions in Trump v. CASA 606 U.S. 831 (2025).
Justice Barrett, whose family this deranged President believes should be ashamed of her, wrote the majority opinion.
If the only criterion you use to to assess the quality of a legal opinion is whether Donnie T likes it, you need to give up judicial analysis and find a new hobby.

@SlimRoy1955 @ProjectLincoln @realDonaldTrump SlimRoy, one could be a body at rest and keep up with you. Now, there is this thing I have that's called a life, so feel free to have the last word. And enjoy your day.
English

@lockforward @ProjectLincoln @realDonaldTrump Or, and try to keep up here, you could shove your whataboutism and deflections where your head is, and learn how to post in a manner to actually make some kind of point. You're welcome.
English

At this point @realDonaldTrump will need to release all of the Epstein files in order to distract from this war in Iran.

You are only telling on yourself when you describe that photo as meaningless. If your bandwidth is so limited that you've forgotten what went down in Charlottesville, and then @ProjectLincoln's fraudulent weaponization of that tragedy to aid the campaign of a pocket lining schmuck like Terry McAuliffe, maybe you should learn more and pop off at the mouth less. Or at least redirect a portion of your abundant store of ire from me to The Lincoln Project. After all, this is far from the only scandal afflicting this sorry outfit.
English

@lockforward @ProjectLincoln @realDonaldTrump Perhaps your "point" would have been more apparent if you had posted the story behind the pic, instead of just the meaningless picture. Nice try, though. Go ahead, try again.
English

@RichardGrenell Is MAGA's conduct when it loses an election the recommended model?
English

The race-baiting in question relates to the photograph included in my post. Perhaps you were unaware of this sad little chapter in the tortured history of the sainted folx who gave us The Lincoln Project? And it is far from the only one. They may not be as contemptible as the President, but they are close.
Care to "try again"?
English

@lockforward @ProjectLincoln @realDonaldTrump No one mentioned any ethnicity, smoothbrain. Try again.
