@BlackwoodBrief You forgot to end your fan-fiction with Pezeshkian getting blown up by an Israeli missile.

📞 Macron calls Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian: Stop closing the Strait of Hormuz and you can have whatever you want… France and Europe are ready to lift all sanctions, offer major oil and gas deals, and support you in international negotiations, on the condition that you immediately reopen the strait and restore freedom of navigation. He told him: You are causing an unprecedented global energy crisis. Oil prices are skyrocketing, the European economy will collapse, and the whole world will pay the price because of the ships being stopped in Hormuz. President Pezeshkian interrupted him calmly and firmly: Where were you when you imposed harsh sanctions on our people for decades? Where were you when you supported aggression against the region and ignited wars that have already destabilized the security of Hormuz? Macron: This is a new chapter… We propose an urgent meeting in Paris or Geneva, and Europe will give you real economic and security guarantees. Pezeshkian: We don't trust guarantees from countries that repeatedly betray their agreements. We simply want: a complete cessation of military support for Israel, and the immediate and unconditional lifting of all sanctions, otherwise the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed… or the pressure will increase. Macron: And a special exemption for French and European ships to ensure safe passage? Pezeshkian: First, remove the American and Israeli military presence from the Gulf, then we can talk about passage. Iran does not deal with those who play both sides. That's all I have to say. Then he hung up. 💥

Some of us expressed great concern about the Iran War when it was first launched. We were shouted down and condemned as “panicans” and “blackpillers” and even Islamist sympathizers. But it’s pretty clear from how things have gone that our concerns were absolutely reasonable and legitimate. Maybe Trump will get us out of this thing soon and it still won’t spiral into a long and drawn out war. But even if that happens — and I’m not convinced it will — no thoughtful person can deny at this point that the spiral and long war scenario is very much a possibility. No reasonable person, at this stage, can say that our concerns were irrational. What looks irrational now — and always did — is the demand for blind allegiance and unthinking “trust” in our elected leaders, as though we are called to have faith in politicians like we have faith in God.

@MDJD2 @IAPonomarenko This exemplary opponent is a member of a political party that was banned until 1977; Trump survives because he keeps facing the worst opponents ever. "Check out this Trump opponent: [Insert deranged communist here]." "...I see. So all-in Trump, then?"

@IAPonomarenko Trump is trash. The best behavior is to openly criticize him repeatedly as exemplified by Spanish PM Pedro Sanchez. Further, don't ever apologize or back down from negativity towards him. Finally, don't help him in any manner with this mess. That's how you treat trashy people.

The most absurd part is this: when Europeans refuse to get involved in a war with Iran, Trump throws tantrums, hurling insults and threats. When Europeans agree to cooperate with him, Trump still throws tantrums, hurling insults and threats, and declares he doesn’t need anyone. When Ukraine -- despite all the shovelfuls of dirt that Trump throws at it daily -- chooses not to be a dick about the situation and immediately offers help, along with its specific technologies and frontline experience, Trump still throws tantrums, hurling insults and threats. And his exhalted fans online shout that Ukraine is “ungrateful” (to whom?? to Trump??) and isn’t eagerly licking his boots hard enough. He’s now publicly smearing even Mohammed bin Salman with crude insults. In this sea of erratic behavior, there are simply no rules for navigating it correctly. No matter what you do, the outcome is the same. Apparently, the only winning strategy is to behave like Putin and directly and openly support the Iranian regime. Then Donald Trump will be the one tiptoeing around you, brushing off dust, and kissing your hands.

@malmesburyman I've been trying to tell them that this 2 birds/1 stone situation; the U.S. has realized that they now have a unique opportunity to force Europe to reform, under threat of strangulation. The U.S. is looking at many leaders in Europe the same way it looked at Bashar al-Assad.

European leaders are not sufficiently considering the possibility that Trump’s actions in Iran are about clearing the deck, to the greatest extent possible, for a US pivot out of the Middle East— which will inevitably put pressure on them to take responsibility for its stability.

@FirstSquawk I would not be surprised if the U.S. perceives a closed Strait as a good thing, as economic distress helps impose regime change on *Europe. 1/3rd of Spain's LNG is imported from the United States; if their supply gets rerouted to Asia, the intent is clear.

If I am right Japan, South Korea and Taiwan will receive preferential access to U.S. LNG exports in the coming days to the detriment of Europe instead of energy just following a market-clearing price.

@SaysSimulation It's insane that they keep giving Trump the dumbest opponents ever. As Kissinger said, "Trump may be one of those figures in history who forces the world to give up its old pretenses." It takes two to tango; the old world didn't want to survive.

Europe just *effectively" killed NATO through two decisions on symbolism. It doesn't seem like they have a realistic plan for what comes next. They symbolically sent a handful of troops to Greenland, posing at fighting the US. They refused to send even symbolic forces to Iran 1/
Labrador Skeptic@SaysSimulation

Forget the "analysis", the short video is worth watching. NATO is *effectively* over by mutual consent between the US & Europe, even though the treaty remains. The US is not obligated to defend Europe, never has been. Article V merely says that nations will take "such action 1/

@eugyppius1 I would not be so certain that the U.S. believes a closed strait is a bad thing, for itself. The deference and lack of urgency suggests as much. If the U.S. does seize the Strait, it may be a monkey's paw situation for the rest of the world: a permanent 'Trump Toll'.

US has two serious paths: Either dig in along with Israel for extended campaign to end the Iranian threat for good, accepting energy shortages, casualties, other consequences; or give Iran what is necessary to open the Strait and end the crisis. Both of these defensible.

The fuel crisis in Australia is basically a perfect microcosm of how badly we've mismanaged strategic infrastructure over the last two decades. We went from having reasonable refining capacity to importing 90%+ of our fuel, then are "shocked" when very vunerable supply chains get disrupted. What's crazy is that politicians have known this was a problem since at least 2019. The fuel security review basically laid it all out - we had at best 3 weeks of coverage if shipping got cut off. But instead of doing the hard work of building resilient policy to protect citizens, the government just announced another fund and wandered off to 7-Eleven for a meat pie. The real issue isn't even the immediate supply crunch. It's that Australia has systematically hollowed out any industry that requires long-term thinking or involves actual risk. We're basically just a giant quarry with suburbs attached, and somehow basic energy security is someone else's problem.

China has cut Australia off for Jet A1 fuel (kerosene), all of next months shipments cancelled. Normally 12/month. There’s one ship inbound. That’s it. China is Australia’s largest Jet Fuel supplier.
