Being a crypto account is comparable to having the street cred of a junkie. Nobody likes you, they underestimate all you are and you do as sub-human.. and equate you with wretched scum of the earth. In some cathartic, self-flagellating way, we accept that for fumbling n figs.

Modern Brazil is full of liminal spaces like these and I love them "Liminal spaces often lack people, feature unnatural lighting, lack clear exits, and evoke a sense of uncanny familiarity or nostalgia. Common examples include hallways, abandoned malls, hotel corridors, and gas stations at night. Liminal spaces often trigger feelings of anxiety, discomfort, and strangeness because they violate expectations of how a place should be used or experienced. They can also offer profound moments of deep growth, change, and, for some, a sense of quiet calm. In anthropology, liminality is the middle stage of a ritual or transition, where a person is between roles (e.g., in the, limbo between childhood and adulthood). This creates a temporary, ambiguous state of existence."

@dccockfoster @0xfoobar Considering how successful and monumental this venture was, a proper closure would include fixing the longevity problems with wrapper contracts that move away from Web2 storage for standard contracts. A stellar closure would be creating an onchain registry w provenance and more

I’m not sure if you’re genuinely ignorant or being malicious here, but almost all of what you wrote is totally wrong. It is not even slightly accurate to say they were all minted on one centralized smart contract. I think you maybe got us confused with OpenSea, who did have a setup like this at one point. The NFTs we minted all had their own individual smart contract. Everytime we did a drop, we deployed a new smart contract - one contract per collection. You can go easily verify this for yourself by looking at any old collection. We steadily updated our tech. Our early metadata standards were not perfect, but no ones were. We added artist owned contracts, IPFS metadata, etc, everything was always updated and improved, and 99% of the NFTs we sold do not have what you would call ‘centralized metadata’. We updated this as soon as we were able to, no one who minted NFTs in 2019 had ideal metadata setups. Some of the collections we released were extremely technically interesting and envelope pushing. The Merge fully encoded all metadata, completely onchain, dynamically updating with each transaction - the technology behind it was fascinating and very much ahead of its time. Finally, many of the most valuable NFTs that exist today were sold by us. Beeple, Xcopy and Sam Spratt - I have many of them, they’re some of the only NFTs still worth hundreds of thousands.

Nifty Gateway is shutting down, and they’re negligently destroying millions of dollars of NFTs One of the first NFT marketplaces before OpenSea, their ethos was to simply copy traditional auction houses. Centralized custodial wallets, credit cards over crypto, web2 servers instead of blockchain infra. Then when the ‘21 NFT bubble hit, they switched from a crypto-minimized calm art site to lavish hyped celeb drops - Beeple, Pak, Fewocious. These leading drops were visually interesting, but most notoriety value came from crypto-adjacency. Pak an outright rug, Beeple polarizing, and Fewocious a mental mess. Despite crypto being the value driver and value premium for the platform, Nifty never tried to do anything crypto-related. All NFTs were minted on a centralized single contract that mixed together different pieces, different artists all in one messy blob. Images and descriptions and other metadata never came onchain (like cryptopunks), or even to decentralized storage (like ipfs or arweave). They just threw it in fickle cloud storage on low-quality web2 backends. Hundreds of millions of dollars of volume, and Nifty never bothered to write a single decentralized smart contract. Fast-forward five years. It’s a crypto winter, fake acquisitions of failing startups left and right. Nifty announces a full platform shutdown, effective one month later. “Withdraw your NFTs before it’s too late.” They’re planning to delete your wallets, wipe their storage, and ultimately delete whatever fake loose blockchain links ever existed from web2 NFTs to the real art. Nifty couldn’t be bothered to harden or decentralize the infra over many years, and now unwilling to even offer batch migration tooling for their fake crypto platform. Every art that ever touched Nifty will receive a steep valuation discount because of how poorly they stewarded the platform. Even competitors like OpenSea made huge advances like Seaport to decentralized crypto tech. For Nifty, it’s not even zero contribution - just a big fat minus sign. Goodbye and good riddance

Am not a conspiracy theorist, but have you noticed the timing? While all of crypto twitter is chanting "Base" a certain project which goes by name of @nockchain just happens to be bridging there. Around the same time, @mert — a long-time privacy advocate and Zcash supporter — meets @curtis_yarvin , mentor to JD Vance, Peter Thiel, and others… and the inventor of the Nock programming language. Then you’ve got @CryptoKaduna openly talking about Mert waiting for ZK proofs to go live. Then there are also some gentlemen named @cobie and @Cryptopathic who have shown their interest in this project. Coincidences are stacking a little too neatly. Really curious to see this show begin. Pics unrelated 👀

don't forget about larry (even tho he wants you to forget about him) larry is the final boss of the singularity, always has been larry is extremely beyond basically everybody else. scanned 40 million google books in 2004, thought of ai, hired kuzweil in 2012, called elon a speciesist in 2016, name company GOOGLE ffs, and then renamed to alpha bet. hasn't been seen in ten years, carefully monitoring the singularity, making demis and sundar with their smiles the faces of google. this is not dark it is brilliance. i dont think anyone else saw the singularity with as much intellectual honesty as larry

isn't it clear that Demis Hassabis is a far more competent "Machiavellian" than sama, Dario, and whoever else? everytime there's a clip of him, it's an instance of him making a fairly obviously zeitgeist-aligned & agreeable claim which results in endless commentary like below it would make plenty of sense given he likely has the highest raw intelligence within the lineup, certainly above sama, who has in fact done himself by far the most disservice by publicly saying things he could have simply chosen not to say, had he been more intelligent -- incredibly anti-Machiavellian behavior
