You need to carefully evaluate each person you're about to reply to before you reply. It's the only way to keep engagement up on X. Here's my checklist, I go through this before replying to ANYBODY - Account creation date. Replying to an account created within the last 30 days will nuke your engagement. - Follower count. Replying to botted accounts lowers your reach. - Post history. It's important to read every post the user has ever made, if they have said something remotely negative in the past you can't respond - IRL background check. They're cheap ($100 or so) and the turnaround is usually just a few days. If they have a criminal record, don't respond to their post! It could deboost your account. - Ensure they're a good person. You can use any metric you want, as long as it's reliable. I usually visit their home and inspect their oven for cookie residue. If they've baked cookies recently, they're probably a good person and worth replying to, but it's worth further investigation to find out who the cookies were for. I know this because the word 'cookie' appears over 200 times in the open-source twitter code. If you're serious about growing on X, you need to follow these steps before EVER hitting 'Post'.
