@tomgodber @OctopusEnergy Tbf with Octopus you ought to be able to get it sorted by email: no phone calls required. Best thing about them IMO

My gas and electricity supply has been migrated from Bulb to @OctopusEnergy. Only problem is, I got Bulb to disconnect my gas last year - then kept charging me for it, until hours of calls got me a refund. Then Octopus threw that away and started charging again. #heatpumpwoes

@GeorgeBevis The price shouldn’t be more than £50-60 per ton so unless you are flying first with a few connections that seems like a lot

Carbon-offsetting my work flights on Atmosfair.de seems remarkably expensive. Around £500 to cover two trips to/from Africa. Have others on here tried doing flights offsetting “properly”? Is it really that expensive?!

@Brewstermonk1 @Rainmaker1973 It’s more the lower chap who is using the upper chap as a base to pull on (ie using his arms to pull and legs to jump) but I agree it’s very smooth

@Rainmaker1973 The manoeuvre at 00:20 is astonishingly good and can only assume the upper chap pulls up the lower chap - impressive skills

The lion dance is a form of traditional dance and performance in Chinese culture where dancers mimic a lion's movements in a lion costume. And without costume, their moves are possibly even more amazing [read more: ow.ly/2zx330mEHNS]

@ditzikow @pitdesi @matt_levine Hoping for 100c on the dollar doesn’t sound reasonable to me They’ll run a bidding process probably ending up in the 80-90c on the dollar subject to asset quality and duration (ie if they have 10y bonds at 2% those need to be priced at 80c to be in line with current 4% yield)

Pains me to defend VCs for anything, but they were right to advise portfolio companies to exit SVB. Any board member (like this one, presumably) who advocated loyalty above safety clearly breached their duty to company shareholders

I agree 100% with @EconomPic in this tweet twitter.com/EconomPic/stat… where ideally you'd say you are staying in (to limit bank run potential) but you actually pull your funds out maybe that's what @jasonlk did but he seems like a straight up guy (tbf he's also smart so who knows)
Jake@EconomPic

IMO… optimal move from an investor standpoint is to tell everyone there is no bank run… while you pull every last cent out of that bank blog.iese.edu/xvives/files/2…

I have been in a similar situation in the past and didn't make the right decision quickly so I can definitely relate to @jasonlk but having been on the wrong side of that trade in the past, it's clear to me what to do in this situation

This is a poor risk management decision by @jasonlk This is an assymetric trade where on the upside (ie by leaving your funds) you get some extra yield + a relationship in the long run but on the downside you can lose millions

@GeorgeBevis see my other reply on the discount window facility which is there for that specific purpose - it definitely shouldn't be mandatory otherwise it could create contagion from a bad bank to good banks all of this has been thought at the back of 08 so it's fairly robust I would say

@0xeceth Yes, that is an option - but not an obligation - for other banks to support a troubled bank. Obvs not enough because of its optional status

Wondering: could bank runs be avoided by requiring banks to share deposits between themselves? Eg Barclays/Lloyds/HSBC would hold/lend each others’ deposits, so if *my* bank has issues I know much of my money is still safe. Requires banks to trust each other but could it work?
