🧤 When #nufc sign Lukas Hornicek that'll be £78.2m spent on goalkeepers in the last 4 years. Nick Pope, Aaron Ramsdale (loan fee), Vlachodimos Odysseas, Ewen Jaouen have all cost significant fees. Add Jon Ruddy, Lloris Karius signed as back-ups since 2022 too. Huge outlay. A dept that cost them points (at home & in Europe) last season so overhaul was needed.

@111GWB @SamFonsecaa Very good off his line - one of his best qualities, impressive given his physical stature. Very punch heavy and risk-averse on crosses, far from the most frequent claimer. Safe, sufficient, but can definitely grow in this aspect.

Newcastle are getting a goalkeeper who is ready to be the number one right now, but still a huge ceiling. Since being the number one for 2 seasons, Lukáš Horníček has become a great shot stopper, excelling in big games domestically and in Europe for Braga. A fantastic signing.

@111GWB @RudyGaletti I’m not so sure Steve Bruce was a huge gamble - team on paper was decent but he only just about kept us up - had we been relegated the takeover probably would have collapsed again as Ashley wanted his figure. I think we will be ok I hope we sign an experienced CB though

Ironic in some ways that Newcastle need to pay a market rate release clause to Al Ahli (PIF owned) for fear of anything too low being rejected by the Premier League as an abuse of the Associated Party Rules. Of course, that then puts them immediately £8m down on the 26/27 budget for SCR and the UEFA settlement
