It’s funny, this just happened in the game I worked yesterday. If pitchers are changed with the following counts: 2-0 2-1 3-0 3-1 3-2 And the batter walks, you charge the original pitcher with the walk. Any other action goes to the new pitcher.

Horizontal momentum does decrease due to the drag induced speed decrease but it is not “transferred.” And actually gravity *acting alone* would tend to increase overall speed since it would increase vertical velocity while leaving horizontal velocity unchanged.

But as gravity pulls it downward, 80 mph of the object’s velocity at a 45° downward angle will be ~57 mph forwards. Going straight down at 80 mph would be 0 mph forwards, etc.
