Hezbollah's recent use of fiber-optic FPV drones has drawn significant attention.
The man behind this program is now identified.
Dr. Zain had a PhD in Communications Engineering, specializing in optical fiber technology.
He was killed on 7th March, before the use of the first FPV drone by Hezbollah during the ongoing war.
He's now being posthumously praised for helping develop this new Hezbollah capability.
Targeted in his home, he was killed along with his family.
Buried with Hezbollah flag (pic 2), he regularly traveled to Iran and worked with the #IRGC Quds Force.

I’ve covered drone threats for a decade, Israel has all sorts of technology it pioneered to counter UAS threats. This specific niche threat of FPV fiber optic drones was known in Ukraine. It was apparently not taken seriously as much in Israel. There’s a missing piece of the puzzle here and it seems to possibly relate to cold Ukraine-Israel relations and less attention in Jerusalem to lessons from the Ukraine war It’s perplexing because almost every interview I have done with Israeli defense companies over the last years has referenced how the Ukraine war is impacting countries and their demands for new defense tech. This one type of threat fell through the cracks and it likely says a lot about a kind of sense that while many countries were learning from the Ukraine battlefield, Israel specifically was not. For a variety of reasons.
