Being Balkan has its perks. American boomer thinks he can scare me with 14% interest rate on a mortgage? Try bread lines, my guy. And I am the mild version of the Balkans. Go tell that to a Croat, Bosnian or an Albanian, let me know how that goes. They'll bury your waiting for gas or 15% inflation with literal stories of surviving war.

as I have been saying for 2 weeks.....and in recent days all of the "experts" are saying, this would be the most suicidal military move... 1. Iran is not going to just allow a convoy of MEUs with a few thousand Marines through the straits to get to the island. We are in a war, they will sink them 2. An airborne assault out of Kuwait, or a fucking airborne parachute drop as the other option is ridiculous 3. The island is 15 miles offshore from the mainland...literally in fucking MORTAR range at least.....drones and missiles and artillery will just pound the tiny "excursion" of troops on a tiny island that has no bunkers, no where to hide 4. Zero logistical support for any troops that actually get there What the fuck are we doing?
GeoInsider@InsiderGeo

NEW: Israeli sources are increasingly pointing to a possible U.S. ground operation against Iran, likely limited and focused on Kharg Island and the Strait of Hormuz. The objective would be clear: hit Iran’s oil lifeline and force Tehran back to the table.

@AllQuizAble @AutoPap Most journeys are that. Dull. For some, every journey is like that. And dull not because of the car, it's the environment, the roads.

@AutoPap 1. transport wise, definitely. efficient, yet dull. 2. why would you need a 75 plate for £1.2 worth of weekly driving ?

If it’s just a matter of transport, I think owning an EV now makes more sense than ever. Especially when it costs me approx £1.20 to charge for my week’s driving.

@compendiumvitae @TedWelford Oh sorry, empty brand image lol. Nope, Skoda's image is true. You pay less money for more space (practicality). Quite simple and it works.

@1sthand2 @TedWelford Your reply shows that the group’s marketing strategy has been successful in terms of segmentation: you’re repeating exactly what was established there for Škoda. There’s no objective comparison – for example, with VW or other brands outside the group – to begin with. Perfect.

@compendiumvitae @TedWelford You said it's empty marketing? The BS VAG marketing (PR actually) is that Volkswagens are reliable, the people's car, nice interior (check out what journos used to write). Skoda is the practical brand and actually live up to it. Simples

All areas had a butchers, a green grocer a hardware store and a pub and so on. Even a little market a few days a week. All owned by members of community. It all changed when shops like @tesco @sainsburys opened up soulless shops and forced those places out of business. It was napoleon who called us the nation of shop keepers. It was external greed that destroyed the local community.

I completely understand the frustration of British cities no longer looking “English” but can I ask why English businesses have stopped trading in these same places they complain about. I hardly see independent English/white owned fruit and vege, corner shops, butchers, restaurants etc WHY?? There are plenty of empty buildings up and down the high street- so why can’t you English pull your finger out? Can’t be bothered? Poor work ethic? If there is an empty building and no one is taking out a lease or buying it who’s English, what’s wrong with Asian, Middle Eastern businesses setting up shop It just sounds like jealousy at times. Nothing is stopping you from opening a business on a high street of your choice.

Someone is selling a manor estate in Burgundy with a private river, waterfalls and a natural swimming pond. 2 hours from Paris. Two buildings arranged around a courtyard, 1,700m² (18,298 sq ft) in total, 12 bedrooms, an artist's studio, stables and 7 hectares (17 acres) of land. Inside there's a music room with a piano, a library in the tower, a writing room, and a dining room built around a fireplace large enough to roast a whole animal. Herons and wild ducks live on the property year round. The river has a depth of 3 metres and you can swim in it all summer. Near Vézelay, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Asking price: €1.39M ($1.6M). The French sure do know about living well. A river on your grounds, your own land to walk, swimming in summer, dinner outside. What's the French word for this kind of life?

@BrokenBritain_7 @danbarker Eurostar London - Paris is quicker on the Eurostar compared to a flight unless one lives next door the airport and want to travel just to the next airport lol. You just don't know when to quit.

Eurostar Tip: A little tip for anyone in the UK who likes to travel via Eurostar, and is relatively flexible- they have a semi-hidden ticket type called 'Eurostar Snap', where you can regularly travel for like £70 return. You can only specify that you want to travel morning or afternoon, then a couple of days before travel they let you know the exact time of the train they've put you on. Google 'Eurostar Snap' and you'll find the booking page.

@Joe__Bassey yes , sold into slavery by a local chief. Educated by the Wheatleys at their expense and then set free at the age of 20......... A shining example of a success story. She couldn't have done it without the Wheatleys... or the local chief who sold her in the first place

This young lady was called Phillis because that was the name of the ship that brought her, and Wheatley, the name of the merchant who bought her. She was born in Senegal 🇸🇳. In Boston, the slave traders put her up for sale: “She's 7 years old! She will be a good mare!” She was felt naked by many hands. At thirteen, she was already writing poems in a language that was not her own. No one believed that she was the author. At twenty, Phillis was questioned by a court of eighteen so-called enlightened White men in robes and wigs. She had to recite passages from Virgil and Milton and verses from the Bible, and vow that the poems she composed were not copied. From a chair, she underwent her lengthy examination until the court approved her: she was a woman, she was Black, she was enslaved, but she was a poet. Phillis Wheatley was the first African-American writer to publish a book in the United States 🇺🇸

@MichaelAArouet This charts says us that real childcare expenses are 35K, 20K are subsidized. Is not it a crazy number in first place? Raising I child costs roughly a million till he starts to work and he will never be able to earn back that money with these taxes.
