Surgery resident @AaronGilani asked why people close the fascia of trocar sites with a figure-of-eight suture instead of a horizontal mattress. Let us look at these briefly via one of my experiments. (1/ )

I need @rbarbosa91 perspective on why everyone closes small facial sites with a single figure-of-eight, even though it’s a hemostatic suture pattern, as opposed to, for example, a horizontal mattress.

It was an honor to testify before the Mississippi Legislature Study Committee on Insurance Coverage about the importance of biomarker testing and the need for legislation to ensure access for all. @MSLCRT @AmericanCancer @NLCRTnews @LungPolicy

Here’s a nice analysis of 2.5M children about Tylenol and autism. The study found a small association between tylenol use in pregnancy and autism, but the association went away in sibling analysis. In sibling analysis you compare children born to the same mother where one child was exposed to Tylenol but not the other. This is a better comparison because genetics are similar between siblings whereas they differ greatly in non siblings from different families. Bottom line: no increased risk of autism with tylenol use in a huge population analysis. jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/…

No more ‘homemade’ fenestrations, branched and off-the-shelf solutions are making complex AAA repair safer and more reproducible. Hopefully, reliance on custom-made devices will keep decreasing as technology advances. #AorticSurgery #Innovation #VascularSurgery #BEVAR

🧵regarding the Bovie, which is one of the most commonly used tools in surgery. I have decided to reorganize my Bovie content into something that makes more sense, which will require multiple 🧵. This first one will cover the very basics and is geared toward students. (1/ )
