@SamHersh01 There was no business case for a LNG terminal but this is supposed to be a good investment?

Canada is literally the only G7 country without high speed rail. Conservatives want you to continue to pay sky high prices for gas, worsen congestion on roads and make your commute hours longer. We've been "studying" high speed rail for 50 years - time to get it built.
Scott Robertson@sarobertsonca

Pierre Poilievre on the Toronto–Quebec City High-Speed Rail Network: "Conservatives oppose the $90b Liberal-Alto train ... a future Conservative government will cancel this $90b boondoggle altogether."

@CheriDiNovo Comparing the population density of Europe to Ontario and Quebec and assuming both should have the same transportation system is quite ignorant.

Poilievre wants to cancel the high speed Toronto to Quebec City rail. We should suggest (on his dime) he spend some time in Europe where rail takes you everywhere and public transit is taken by the wealthy because it's faster, cleaner, greener and cheaper. Tory governments are the reason we're decades behind the world.

Something people aren't thinking about. $90 billion being spent on a high-speed rail system in two provinces with heavy snowfall. What would the effects be of a train hitting a snow bank at 200 km an hour?

@BOSSportsGordo Never understood this either. Makes it more difficult to load your vehicle via the hatch/trunk. I also think its safer to have the wheels that steer be the last out of the spot. It's too easy to cut off the side of the car beside you if you turn sharp while pulling out forward.

@JoelleAdler @JonFraserTF They are not allowed to move their Corp HQ out of the Montreal urban area. It was part of the agreement when the airline privatized.

JBA Meet me in the Middle extremes are Bad
Air Canada could have moved its HQ to Ontario yrs ago, in fact it’s a burden for the airline to remain in Quebec for numerous reasons. A CEO should be judged by their qualifications, all aviation operates in ENGLISH the EU parliament runs in ENGLISH my mother tongue is French, I live in Quebec and love the bilingualism but I also know the punitive nature and obsession of pushing French language has destroyed the potential of Quebec. Kids speak only one language and are disadvantaged, while rich elite French send their children to private schools so they can thrive on an English continent.

The controversy around the Air Canada CEO is especially interesting considering the pilots didn't work for Air Canada and the plane was owned and operated by Chorus Aviation, the parent company of Jazz Aviation. Their CEO Colin Copp seems to have escaped any controversy.

This is in Winnipeg Manitoba. The "where" really doesn't matter. The residents of this complex requested services from their municipality to come unclog the drain. The response was that it would take days to come deal with the issue. These 2 men took it upon themselves to fix the problem. Tell me again why home owners pay property taxes exactly? Do you think it's time to completely eliminate property taxes?

@brianlilley Air Canada doesn't even own Jazz. They are completely separate companies each with their own CEO, separate operating certificates and their own employees. So where is the CEO of Chorus Aviation that actually owns the airline ?

He was Air Canada’s CFO during the 2008-09 financial crash. He took over as CEO in 2021 when air travel was decimated. Just 6 weeks ago Air Canada financial results showed record revenue. But now he’s out because he didn’t do a video in French torontosun.com/opinion/column…

@stevenmackinnon The airline does provide bilingual service to all Canadians. There is no requirement for the CEO to be bilingual. A message of condolence is not operational and does not require any official language. It was a personal message. I would expect the Transport Minister to know this.

I note the retirement of Michael Rousseau as President and Chief Executive Officer of Air Canada. I thank him for his years of service and his contribution to maintaining Canada’s position as a leader in international air transportation. The Government of Canada will continue to work closely with Air Canada’s leadership and Board of Directors to ensure the airline provides safe, reliable, affordable, and bilingual service to all Canadians.

@nettermike The fund isn't for her medical bills. It is for her immediate family members to be with her, out of country, by her side and away from their work. Medical insurance doesn't cover this.

Update on Flight Attendant… She was sitting in her jump seat directly behind the cockpit when Air Canada Express Flight 8646 collided with a fire truck on Runway 4 at LaGuardia Airport. On impact, Solange Tremblay, the senior flight attendant on board, was ejected more than 320 feet from the wreckage. She was found on the tarmac, still strapped to her seat. She was conscious for all of it. Her daughter Sarah Lépine called it "a total miracle." Aviation safety experts agreed, saying her survival was extraordinary given the complete destruction of the cockpit just feet from where she was sitting. Her four-point harness jump seat, designed to withstand extreme crash loads, likely saved her life. But Solange's fight is far from over. Her injuries are severe: two shattered legs with open fractures requiring multiple surgeries and metal plates, a fractured spine, skin grafts needed for the flesh she lost sliding across the tarmac, and complications that led to a blood transfusion. She still faces several more surgeries and intensive rehabilitation to learn how to walk again. Her daughter and cousin have set up a GoFundMe to help the family. The funds will allow Sarah and Solange's husband Denis to take time off work to be by her side as she recovers in a New York hospital for the foreseeable future. "My mother dedicated her entire life as a flight attendant and was very proud of her work," Sarah wrote. "Right now, my mom needs your help.”

@JakeLandauTO Air Canada does conduct bilingual operations, often even in three or four languages, but a message of condolence is not 'operations' so there is no requirement.

It's pretty embarrassing to be a senior business executive in Montréal and have no functional capacity to speak French. Airlines are required by federal law to be bilingual, I would hope that would include condolences to francophone families.

NEW: @AirCanada issues statement after uproar over Michael Rousseau’s video. In part, it reads: “Despite his efforts, his ability to express himself in French does not allow him to convey such a sensitive message in that language as he would wish.” #polqc ctvnews.ca/montreal/artic…

@xSladeWilsonx @Harry__Faulkner Air Canada is not a Crown Corporation. It was privatized decades ago and is a private company listed on the stock exchange. They can do what they like. We only expect bilingualism because they promise it, not because they have to.
