@Cyaphide Don't actually spike a tree, because it's illegal, but in Ecodefense: A Field Guide to Monkeywrenching, they say to make the hole bigger than the ceramic, and use a glue-like substance so it stays put, and cover with wood or bark so it isn't visible.

One thing I've seen rumors about during my research of tree spiking is the use of "ceramic" spikes. They are supposedly less dangerous for workers (doubtful) but more importantly cannot be detected with metal detectors.
But ceramic is brittle as hell. How would they drive them?

I remember when I first did research about Brother printers. Family was constantly going through crappy HP printers.
Little 15 year old me told my dad to buy a brother wireless printer.
They still have it to this day and it still prints. Probably not secure but still works.
