I think we should be able to defend our airbases - be it in the UK or overseas - without needing to deploy a Royal Navy destroyer for area air defence, 3 Royal Navy helicopters for swatting drones, and 1 Royal Navy helicopter for airborne early warning. Is that too much to ask?

A major 2025 NATO exercise in Estonia (Hedgehog) exposed serious weaknesses in how the alliance would fight a high-intensity drone war like Ukraine’s. Despite involving 16,000 troops from 12 countries, NATO forces were rapidly overwhelmed by a small Ukrainian-led “enemy” team using real battlefield tactics and Ukraine’s AI-enabled Delta targeting system. In one scenario, NATO units advanced without adapting to drone transparency: “It was all destroyed.” A 10-person Ukrainian adversary team mock-destroyed 17 armored vehicles in half a day. Dobropillia direction, some general information. Russian forces, being generally inactive for now, are switching to deep infiltrations with small groups behind Ukrainian positions. Unfortunately, sometimes they have success in conducting sabotage missions. Recently, two Russians were spotted inside Zolotyi Kolodyaz and were eliminated just after. One Ukrainian pickup was also ambushed by some Russian infiltrators: the passengers died, as did the ambushers soon after the event. About the frontline itself, they are barely moving in Sofiivka/Shakhove, but, as I reported yesterday, they are much more active near Novyi Donbas, Bilytske, and Rodynske. The Ukrainians are confident in holding the Shakhove/Sofiivka direction, and the Russians are not seeing big results for now, which is why they expect that they will slowly focus their attention further west towards Dobropillia itself. Regarding Russian losses, indeed, I was able to confirm something along the previously discussed 1:15 ratio figure. From the words of the soldiers there, "They die on an industrial scale." In general, the Russians completely switched to small groups, but even then they have serious difficulties in accumulating in the first place because of how open the area is.
