In 1970, my dad would give me fifty cents to go buy him a package of cigarettes. Player's Filter.
I would ride into town, downhill all the way, go right past the store he expected me to go to, ride down to Westminster Avenue Husky, get them for forty-three cents, have a whole seven cents to myself, ride back to the corner store, and buy I would buy Jawbreakers and N-Babies, five for a penny.
I would come home with a pack of cigarettes and a little brown bag absolutely stuffed with candy, all for fifty cents.

@newstart_2024 A parent was told they had diabetes, nope, 1.5 years later, pancreatic mass. Now palliative. It’s been a horrendous journey.
English

Stage 2 pancreatic cancer caught after months of loose stool + throbbing upper-left pain doctors dismissed.
Maria Menounos (diagnosed 2023):
“I had diarrhea for a month and a half… all tests negative. Then severe abdominal pain that came and went. I kept saying ‘this doesn’t feel right.’ No one listened until I got an outside MRI.”
Key messages she’s sharing:
- Pancreatic cancer can be silent or vague for a long time
- Persistent weird symptoms (even with “normal” tests) deserve deeper investigation
- “If your doctors don’t know what’s going on, go to an outside facility—they’re incentivized to find something”
She credits her mom’s intuition and faith (“this is happening for me, not to me”).
Pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (like Maria’s) are rare and often slower-growing than typical pancreatic cancer. Early detection via imaging dramatically improves outcomes — 5-year survival for localized stage 2 PNETs can exceed 60–90% with surgery.
Today (2026) Maria is cancer-free post-surgery, thriving as a mom and health advocate, and pushing early-detection tools like multi-cancer blood tests.
Have you or someone close ever had vague, persistent symptoms that turned out to be serious?
What finally made you/your loved one push for more testing?

This kid bagging my groceries put all the cold items together, all the boxes in perfect formation.
"You're really good at this," I said.
He stopped and looked up.
"Nobody's ever told me I was good at anything before."
He's maybe sixteen.
I watched him finish bagging with the precision of someone who just discovered they had a talent.
Recognition changes everything.

WINDSOR POLICE NEWS RELEASE
Case #: 26-15233
Attempted murder suspect arrested again for bail violation
A 39-year-old man charged with attempted murder has been arrested for violating his bail conditions for the second time in approximately 10 months.
On February 6, 2025, Damian Richards was arrested in connection with a targeted shooting that occurred the previous week near the intersection of Partington Avenue and Algonquin Street. He was granted bail on multiple charges, including attempted murder, pointing a firearm, and possession of a prohibited firearm without a licence.
Two months later, Richards was arrested after bail compliance officers determined he had violated the conditions of his release order. In October, he was released again under strict house arrest conditions.
During routine monitoring, officers learned that Richards had once again violated his court-ordered conditions on six occasions between January 30 and February 13, 2026.
Shortly before 2 p.m. on February 13, bail compliance officers, with assistance from the Emergency Services Unit, located and arrested Richards in the 1500 block of University Avenue West. He has been charged with six counts of failing to comply with a release order.
Richards’ surety, 59-year-old David Davies, who was with him at the time, was also arrested and charged with facilitating a breach of a release order. A surety is an individual who agrees to supervise an accused while they are out on bail and ensure they comply with their release conditions.
The bail compliance officers are part of the Offender Management Unit, a partnership between the Windsor and LaSalle Police Services launched in March 2024. This unit supervises high-risk individuals placed under house arrest, curfew, or electronic monitoring and ensures that those who violate their judicial release orders are held accountable. The Offender Management Unit is funded by a grant from the Government of Ontario as part of the province’s strategy to strengthen Ontario’s bail system.
The Windsor Police Service encourages anyone with information regarding individuals who are not complying with their release conditions to contact us at 519-255-6700. To report anonymously, please contact Windsor & Essex County Crime Stoppers at 519-258-8477 (TIPS) or visit catchcrooks.com.

Attempted Murder Suspect Arrested Again For Violating Bail Conditions
Windsor - A 39-year-old man previously charged in connection with a targeted shooting has been arrested for allegedly breaching his bail conditions for the second time in less than a year.
Damian Richards was initially arrested on February 6, 2025, following a shooting near the intersection of Partington Avenue and Algonquin Street the week prior. Police said the incident was targeted. He was charged with attempted murder, pointing a firearm, and possession of a prohibited firearm without a licence. Richards was later released on bail.
Two months after his release, bail compliance officers determined Richards had violated the terms of his release order, leading to another arrest. In October 2025, he was granted bail again under strict house arrest conditions.
Police say routine monitoring revealed Richards allegedly breached his court-ordered conditions six times between January 30 and February 13, 2026.
Shortly before 2 p.m. on February 13, bail compliance officers, assisted by the Emergency Services Unit, located and arrested Richards in the 1500 block of University Avenue West. He now faces six additional counts of failing to comply with a release order.
Also arrested was his surety, 59-year-old David Davies, who was with Richards at the time of the arrest. Davies has been charged with facilitating a breach of a release order.

More than 40,000 Canadian Armed Forces members served during Canada’s mission in Afghanistan. 158 never came home, and many others returned carrying physical and psychological wounds that continue long after service ends.
Today, and everyday, we Remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice, we honour the courage of all who served, and we stand with the Veterans and families who live every day with the lasting impacts of that mission.
As an organization committed to supporting Veterans of all eras, our focus remains on Remembrance, respect, and support — for the fallen, for those who served and returned, and for their loved ones.

We support the decision of @TorontoPolice not to participate in this program. With no viable plan presented by the federal government, it makes no sense why we would allocate our limited resources towards this misguided attempt at public safety.
In Toronto, our members are dedicated to making an actual difference on our streets by targeting illegal firearms and partnering with other law enforcement agencies to tackle the smuggling of guns and illicit drugs across our borders.
Our position has been clear from the beginning: money spent on the buyback program should be directed to police services across the country, rather than on a bureaucratic program with no tangible evidence of success.
