When I heard about Senator Graham’s death last night, the first thing I thought about was not all the things he said and did in service of Donald Trump. I thought of the time before Donald Trump when he was a brother to Senator John McCain. A time when senators from different parties could fight about politics and still be friends. A time when a conservative Republican from South Carolina could say of my father: “If you can’t admire Joe Biden as a person, you’ve got a problem. He’s the nicest person I’ve ever met in politics. As good a man as God ever created.” That is the Senator Graham I will remember today. Not because I have forgotten what came after. Because in that memory there is hope. Hope for a country where brothers can fight like hell over policy and still share a meal, and a laugh, and the loss of the people they love. I will choose to remember the time before Trump. Because I believe in an America after Trump.

The owner of Chez Xue says he has had enough of poorly behaved children in his restaurant, so he is now fining parents. You You Xue says one customer changed a dirty diaper next to another customer who was dining. "We are not a playground. Please ensure children REMAIN SEATED at all times and respectful of fellow guests and the dining environment," the restaurant's policy says. "Running around, shouting, making noise with utensils, etc. WILL NOT BE TOLERATED!" One parent was charged $327 after their child smashed a credit card machine. Another parent was charged $109 after their kid carved designs into a table with a utensil. One more parent was charged $5 after a child smashed a teacup. "I honestly put this notice on my menu because I didn't want to put my employees in the position of parenting other people's children. It should not be their job," the owner said. As a US citizen you should stand with your country and its athletes when they give you an opportunity to cheer them on against any other country, not find a way to root against them because you hate who the President is. The World Cup and the Olympics are the biggest country vs country competitions on the planet. It’s not about what team your favorite player plays for or who you have historically rooted for. It is a time when you decide if you are going to root for your country or against it. I’m a military kid, who loves God and watched as my friends’ Moms, Dads, Brothers, Sisters and Aunts, Uncles die in service of the freedoms we enjoy today. So supporting your country and rooting for your country does mean a lot to me. Some people think loving America means supporting Donald Trump or historical atrocities committed by your country, but it doesn’t. It simply means standing with your country in a competition when the rest of the world is standing with theirs. US VERSUS THEM. If you have dual citizenship or your family is from another country and the USA is playing them, then I’m not talking about you. But if you are looking for a “yea but what about this that happened or what about that thing that happened” which has nothing to do with rooting for your country in a dang World Cup match and chanting USA, then I got 4 words for you.
