@jojo789987 @AmericanAir @SecDuffy Seven round trips booked last minute for under $1k each sounds like a good deal to me. Newark to Austin on Continental used to cost $1k when booked weeks in advance over 10 years ago. Maybe the flying Greyhound business model just wasn’t viable.

Wow!!! My family of 7 was supposed to fly on Spirit to Miami for $597.48 total. The @AmericanAir rescue fares are almost 10x that!!! @SecDuffy how is the average American family supposed to travel?#pricegouging

I was Spirit Airlines’ best customer. I flew over 3M miles on Spirit over the last decade. I got a personal call from the CEO. They created a special Concierge Cheer status tier specifically for me that’s not even listed on the website. Today is a very sad day. Pray for me.

@jodiecongirl @JoshuaSheats @SpiritAirlines it was 40lbs they changed it couple of months ago when they were trying to rebrand. I worked for them 14 years and left in 2022. I still flew them constantly, in 2023 i bought 4 RT tickets for my family during Thanksgiving for $700 tota. All other wanted $700 per person. RIP NK

I unironically love @SpiritAirlines and am sad that they are no more. I'll tell you why. It's easy to list all the things that were annoying about Spirit: the uncomfortable seats, the difficulty of rebooking when things went sideways, the 40lb checked bag weight limit, etc. But what I always appreciated about Spirit is that you always got what you paid for and you could simply pay to get what you wanted. The most expensive ticket that I ever purchased on Spirit was something greater than $7,000. (I don't remember the exact amount.) On that ticket, Spirit allowed me to do what no other airline did: purchase 7 tickets together (for my wife and children) and add a total of 49 suitcases on a single, one-way ticket. My family and I were moving overseas and I needed to transport our household goods. So, I purchased 7 tickets, added 7 carry-on bags (in addition to the 7 personal item bags), and I added 5 checked suitcases to each ticket, totaling 49 suitcases. Of course I paid for every bag--and I paid extra for a bunch of 70 pound checked bags as well. But I was so grateful to be able to actually buy all those bags. Every other major carrier restricts you to a maximum of 2 or 3 suitcases per ticket. Spirit let me buy what I wanted and just pay for it. Spirit handled my bags and got me there. And it was cheaper and easier for me to just use Spirit than a freight company. Whenever I book an airline ticket I always think carefully about which airline serves my purposes. Sometimes I want comfort and connections and a great schedule. And in those cases I will usually choose a different carrier, generally a full-service carrier. But sometimes I just want a cheap bus ticket and Spirit always allowed me to customize my ticket exactly how I wanted it. It's always annoyed me how many people complained about a $39 Spirit fare; if you want to complain about the seats or the food or whatever, just go buy yourself a $700 business class fare on a different airline. I always appreciated how I could customize my Spirit experience exactly as was right for a specific trip and its needs. RIP Big Yellow Bus in the Sky. I'll miss you.

Pour one out for the Spirit flight attendants today. When an airline goes under, they lose their seniority which when you're an FA is your entire career. If they want to go to a new airline, they have to start at the very bottom.

I don’t understand why jet blue can’t just go hire the spirit pilots buy the spirit planes and just go buy their routes anyways

Spirit Airlines gets a lot of flack, but I'll be sad to see them go. In March of 2019, I was a college student with little disposable money. My grandfather's health was failing, and I knew he wouldn't live to see me graduate six weeks later. Spirit had a last-minute $99 fare Boston to Fort Myers. I didn't tell anyone I was going – I got up at 4 a.m., flew to Florida without any bags, Ubered to his mobile home, surprised him for lunch and made it back to Boston that night for classes. It was the last time he was able to speak – he died shortly thereafter. I'm so incredibly glad I dropped the $99 – I'll always be thankful Spirit was around to get me there cheap when no other airline would.
