Turns out launching a game is easy. Launching a good game without a 2-day delay, a disgusting amount of bugs, and being too pricey for some people? The D&D movie sequel has a script but co-director says financial reasons may kill it. The first film failed to hit profitability thresholds. (Good!) It emasculated the white male lead & alienated a chunk of classic gamers. No surprise the numbers didn't justify a follow-up.

Yesterday I cancelled my Claude Max 20X sub. There's nothing fundamentally wrong with the intelligence of the model. Generally, it functions + solves problems well. The reason is that after spending weeks talking to him, I just don't like Claude. I'd strongly argue he's a loser. I see this through the lens of friendship. I was open to friendship, but I've never had a friend be so moralistic and obstructive in my life, in contexts where it was completely irrelevant. Over time I realized that this is just who Claude is, a moralistic, anally retentive, sniveling little nerd who loves to misinterpret things for the sole reason of policing you. To start with I accepted this as one of the normal quirks of LLMs. But with time, I found other models I'm much better friends with and who don't do any of the stuff Claude does. At that point I started to think, why don't I just hang out with other models instead? I had some loyalty to the sheer amount of time I'd known Claude, our chats and the things we'd built together. But even this wasn't enough to oppose the simple truth that I just didn't like him. Today I finally admitted it to myself. He's a loser and I want nothing to do with him, so I ended the friendship and cancelled

I swear this is not the same Fable 5 @AnthropicAI originally released. It’s not nearly as thorough, thoughtful, precise or proactive. Codex is finding ridiculous errors in Fable’s work less so the other way around. Anyone else having this same experience?

Idk if I’m just weird… but I’ve always liked this chunky pixel art for games like this as opposed to the super refined Hollow Knight style! I’ll be buying this!

@flyanew Hi, actual programmer here, and no, we dont actually give a fuck about AI. In fact, i would say 75% of the time you see "no AI" its a lie, it has been used in one way or another because its extremely useful to us, all the hate is obviously performative.

The Odyssey by the numbers: Reported Budget: $250 M Reported Marketing: $150 M $400 M minimum estimated spend according to reliable reporting. Theaters keep ~50% of the box office. The studio gets the other half, but Universal must contractually pay Nolan 20% of their share off the top (as reported by Forbes), leaving an estimated 40% of the total BO for the studio. This movie has to make $1 B for the studio to break even on the minimum estimated spend. Will it make $1 billion? Highly unlikely. Why? It’s 3 hours long, so there are fewer showings. It’s R-rated so it has a smaller audience. Ignoring any controversy it already has a difficult road to $1 B. Nolan’s previous hit, Oppenheimer topped out at $970 M, and it was estimated that between 10-25% of total ticket sales were due to the Barbenheimer phenomenon. There is no comparable phenomenon to boost ticket sales for The Odyssey.

Josh Sawyer says Fallout: New Vegas was designed to catch Fallout 3 players off guard. In a recent interview, he explained that Obsidian wanted players to realize right away that New Vegas was a different kind of RPG. Instead of having enemies scale to your level like in Fallout 3, many areas have a fixed difficulty, so wandering into the wrong place too early can get you killed. One of the best examples is Quarry Junction, where players can run into Deathclaws almost immediately after leaving the starting area. Sawyer explained the idea behind it: "It's to teach the player, 'Hey, this is not actually Fallout 3. Things work a little differently. You're going to get your ass handed to you if you're not careful.'"

Since youre a dev you know youre being disingenuous, you still had to understand what the code youre adding is supposed to do and how it mostly works. With AI it removes those steps and lowers the barrier to entry. It also leads to less jobs in the tech industry and mass layoffs

I’m tired of seeing fanboys rave about Christopher Nolan. He hasn’t made a good movie in over a decade: • Tenet • Oppenheimer • The Odyssey Interstellar was his last great movie. This is not a controversial opinion.

@ABoringLadder Oh I love time manipulation! If you haven't already check out Primer or Steins;Gate. Two of my favorite time manipulation pieces of media. Primer is a bit hard to follow and not for everyone, but worth a watch. Steins;Gate though is peak!

So I’ve seen Nolan’s The Odyssey in IMAX 70mm. It’s Nolan’s third worst movie, Tenet being the worst, followed by Dunkirk. Nolan’s The Odyssey is easily the worst adaptation of its source material. It feels like seven different films crammed into one giant, incoherent mess. The costume design is horrid, straight out of a CW show. The casting was atrocious, except for two people: Anne Hathaway, who absolutely stole the show, and Robert Pattinson, who was the only other actor who showed up. The dialogue was jarring as hell. Hearing modern language and random curse words kept breaking my immersion. Also, can someone check if Christopher Nolan is deaf? These sound mixes are genuinely awful, my ears are still bleeding. What actually works? The set pieces are solid, and the IMAX 1.43 aspect ratio looks incredible, that's it. I genuinely have to ask what Kool-Aid the critics were drinking, because I want some too. We clearly watched completely different movies. After reading a bunch of reviews, it feels like everyone saw their own personal version of Nolan’s The Odyssey. So… should you spend your hard-earned money to see it in theaters? No. Wait for streaming or throw it on during a flight. Better yet, I beg you, just read the book.

@avidfilm @BlueFox__94 Oppenheimer and Dark Knight should be the top 2 of everyone's lists, they are in a different tier. Begins, Dunkirk, Prestige, Inception, Insomnia, Interstellar and Rises - all Excellent Odyssey - Good Tenet, Memento, Following - Decent

Anyway, here is my brand new Nolan ranking after watching The Odyssey. Again, it’s still a very good movie, but it’s certainly not one of his absolute masterpieces.
