70% of Americans are struggling to afford groceries, housing, and healthcare, and there is a genocide in Gaza and Lebanon. Fuck the Met Gala.

@matthiasellis Part of the takeaway should be that left wing positions should be customized for the particularities of the local culture. Platner works in Maine, AOC in New York, Talarico in Texas, etc, but if you swapped them around they’d run into problems

Nobody is want to do it and it’s driving everyone insane but somebody needs to write about Platner and race and gender. Not in a hectoring way, but as a development in left wing American electoralism and strategy

Graham Platner: “What we need is a clear political message about who is to blame. Because it isn’t immigrants, it’s not trans kids. It’s billionaires, it’s corporations, it’s Wall Street, it’s private equity, it’s Silicon Valley as it manipulates our feelings and commodifies our entire being”

Outside of usual misuse of "performative," this take is funny because a subway commute--for many 30 min. to an hour--is truly ideal reading time. What else are you going to do, desperately try to connect to the WiFi at each station so you can scroll your phone for 10 seconds?
The Poetry Decider@Aliteraryshadow

Underlying a lot of these takes is a fact that these people don't see reading as an enjoyable activity and refuse to believe that anyone else does.

@Husvero I did my first play through completely blind. Used a notebook to keep track of quests. Missed some things but nothing crucial, and the moments of frustration were worth it for all the surprises

To what degree did you guys use guides for Elden Ring? To find bosses? Specific quest lines? Dungeons, hidden walls, items etc. I obviously love exploring its world, but the game can get overly vague with finding things, even nonsensical with some quests.

Having now stayed up half the night reading this, it’s a really strange and vivid book, one that feels like losing yourself in a perfume, the point where sensorium becomes enfleshed thing. It has a tangible cruelty undercut by wonder too. It feels alien to itself in a good way.

I needed some scifi or fantasy with prose that held up and hand long been recommended this. Is Gene Wolfe a neglected author outside genre circles? What does lit twit think? @TheLincoln ?

I fucking hate Alex Karp man. If there's gonna be a shadowy military surveillance company can they at least do it directly and with professionalism. Stop bringing out this insufferable Taika Waititi character to talk about jiu jitsu and how it's woke elitism to oppose AI drones.
