At my daughter’s school they announced that every 6th grader must have an iPad. We asked questions about how the iPads would be used and what evidence there was of educational benefit or harm. The school responded by bringing in an Apple sales team to give parents a hard sell.

Outside of usual misuse of "performative," this take is funny because a subway commute--for many 30 min. to an hour--is truly ideal reading time.

Having now stayed up half the night reading this, it’s a really strange and vivid book, one that feels like losing yourself in a perfume, the point where sensorium becomes enfleshed thing. It has a tangible cruelty undercut by wonder too. It feels alien to itself in a good way.
