DOGE failed not because Elon or Trump didn't care enough about streamlining the Federal government and cutting fraud and waste. It failed because of two things: 1) The primary spending mechanisms within the Federal government are all set to autopilot, and there simply aren't enough votes in Congress to change that. 2) The international monetary arrangement requires a constant outflow of Dollars from the United States to the rest of the world in order to facilitate global trade. Perpetual and growing deficits are one component in facilitating Dollar liquidity. America's trade deficit is another. Lyn Alden is absolutely right.
