@UteJazz664 A gem from the Old Testament! Daily repentance is a good goal to have.
English

I was reading in 2 Chronicles 30 this morning and came across this verse.
For if ye turn again unto the Lord, your brethren and your children shall find compassion before them that lead them captive, so that they shall come again into this land: for the Lord your God is gracious and merciful, and will not turn away his face from you, if ye return unto him.
Repentence isn't a scary thing, it is a good thing. God is merciful and won't turn from us if we return to him. He invites us and is waiting with open arms.

One of the hymns just announced today is Great Is Thy Faithfulness. If you don't know this hymn, give a listen to Carrie Underwood and Cece Winans. youtu.be/NT0HcAr9aeI?is…

@LatterDayCool Great news! Back in the day there was a new member course called Gospel Essentials. (I think)
It seemed weird that it was discontinued.

@muttilolly @defense_of_fam I usually read classics to avoid that very problem. Willa Cather, Pearl S Buck. But here's a more current clean read: The Whistling Season by Ivan Doig.
English

@defense_of_fam I used to love to read, it was my greatest pleasure. But I don’t dare to anymore. It’s in every kind of book.

Are we normalizing the scourge of pornography?
One study found that by age 16, 70% of boys are consuming pornography multiple times a week.
In another study, 82% of the men self-reported as being regular viewers of pornography.
“These data clearly indicate that porn consumption has become a mainstream behavior that almost all men in Western society engage in.” - David Ludden, Ph.D
While the numbers for women are smaller, they are not insignificant. Approximately 44% of women regularly consume pornography.
Rare, and possibly non-existent, is the family unaffected by pornography. What a sad commentary on our day.
As Latter-day Saints, are we supposed to just accept this as a normal part of life?
I don’t believe so. We are commanded to be distinct and different from the world. We are called to a higher standard of virtue, morality and purpose.
I am reminded of the words Alma spoke to his son Corianton, who pursued the harlot Isabel…
“Yea, she did steal away the hearts of many; BUT THIS WAS NO EXCUSE FOR THEE, my son. Thou shouldst have tended to the ministry wherewith thou wast entrusted.”
We should not rationalize or excuse sin because it is pervasive and prevalent. We know better and must be better.
We live in complex times when young children are often unknowingly exposed to the evils of pornography. Their innocence and free-will are stollen at a young age, leaving them to struggle for years, and even lifetimes.
But their struggles do not exist in a vacuum. How many hearts must be shattered? How many families must be destroyed? How many relationships must grow cold?
I long for the day when we normalize purity, strength, fortitude and honor.
The struggle is real, but so is the power of Jesus Christ—not just for repentance, but for prevention.
We do not have to succumb to the evils of the world. We should not succumb.
We should strive to be like the stripling warriors who were “firm and undaunted,” who, “did obey and observe to perform every word of command with exactness.”
We can rise above. We can resist.
The tools and power are ours to wield because He has given them to us.

@defense_of_fam @rwpilgrim67 I appreciate the way President Nelson worded it. "be worthy of admission"
I have a friend whose physical issues make it a big challenge to actually attend the temple. But she is very much a temple woman!

@BladeworksDg @SecretCityChez Me too! Houston Texas Temple. How about you?

@Rach_the_Rivetr @giordano_lives Not only do I remember it, I can sing the song! "Look around you. There are many things to see...".

@giordano_lives I LOVE DAVID THE GNOME! No one else remembers it!

@1000HolyPlaces @DLCampanile At the time, did you realize how very cool that is?
English

@DLCampanile My dad used to be really into falconry when I was young. He had a pet hawk named Wink. I still remember wearing the glove and getting her to come to me.

@NauvooSpice I just started the mother's work last week. Really, it's such an honor to do this service!

@AJasperStone The babies are always so bittersweet to find. Glad you can get him sealed to his mother!

@LatterDayCool @JimRoland15 I'd be willing to start a ward carpool to get that 10:30am slot!
English

We go at 9am currently, but will switch to 12pm in January. We change once every year in January and are always switched between 9am and 12pm. We never get the best time slot of 10:30am though. That is permanently given to a different ward due to their tiny size supposedly. This whole thing due to our parking lot not being big enough supposedly. If I ever get into leadership that has a say in the matter, this will end.

@TFloodeen This sounds awful. I pray you'll find relief - and sound sleep!
English

I am suffering from degenerative bones in my neck. The pain down my arms is almost debilitating when I lay down. If I get up and walk around the pain reduces significantly. The problem is lack of sleep.
I had an injection in my neck that gave me relief for a total of 8 days. I am going to try PT in another week or so to try and strengthen my neck, instead of jumping right into surgery.
In the mean time I am doing online PT and it does not seem to help much yet.
What totally amazes me is that every other day, or so, when the pain is just no longer tolerable, I take a very tiny pink pill (oxycodone). In about 20 minutes the pain is completely gone. I fully understand why OXY can become addictive. It is the only thing that actually takes the pain away.
I have tried Celebrex, Gabapentin, Aleve, Tylenol, asprinin, excedrin, and no lyrica. None of them work at all. It is like taking sugar pills.
I hope the PT brings me relief. I would rather be addicted to OXY than living in pain.

@RykerJackson97 I love this quote and image! The Holy Ghost can help each of us comprehend more and discern more clearly.
English

“I have an old edition of the New Testament in the Latin, Hebrew, German and Greek languages. … I thank God that I have got this old book; but I thank him more for the gift of the Holy Ghost. I have got the oldest book in the world; but I have got the oldest book in my heart, even the gift of the Holy Ghost. … The Holy Ghost … is within me, and comprehends more than all the world; and I will associate myself with him.” - Joseph Smith, Jr.

My daughter's ex was an RM. They got married in the temple. Turned out... poorly. No real solid testimony, no ambition, and a porn problem that led to abuse.
Current non-member live-in boyfriend is good to her and good for her. She's rather anti now. But I'm glad she's got him.
Their story isn't over.
