Today marks four years since my aunt, Shireen Abu Akleh, was killed by an Israeli sniper in Jenin. An iconic journalist, and one of the most empathetic and sweetest people. This is who they killed. She loved life, but they stole hers from her.

The documentary that the BBC refused to air - Gaza: Doctors Under Attack - won a Bafta last night. The documentary shows the targeting, detainment and torture of medics in Gaza by Israeli authorities. The decimation of Gaza’s healthcare system including the detention of healthcare workers is central to Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza. Amnesty awarded Gaza: Doctors Under Attack at the Amnesty Media Awards last week. The work of everyone involved in making this documentary and fighting for it to be broadcast shows the importance of journalists willing to speak truth to power. #Bafta #Baftas

🟠 المبادرة المصرية أطلقت ورقة تعليقًا على مشروع قانون الأحوال الشخصية (قانون الأسرة) للمسيحيين المحال للبرلمان؛ تحلل فيها المشروع المقدم من الحكومة الأول في موضوعه في تاريخ القوانين المصرية، وتستعرض أهم ما جاء فيه، وتعلق عليه مقدمة مقترحات بتعديلات في بعض مواده. 🟠 لعقود، طالب عموم المسيحيين بحلول عملية لمشكلاتهم المرتبطة بتنظيم أحوالهم الشخصية، بينما طالبت المؤسسات الكنسية بـ "قانون أسرة موّحَد للمسيحيين". ومع انتقال تعامل الدولة مع المسيحيين في العقد الأخير إلى نهج أقل تمييزًا، وإن استحكمت قبضته على المجال العام، تستجيب الدولة الآن للمطلب الذي رفعته الكنائس. 🟠 ألقى ذلك بظلاله على عملية صياغة مشروع القانون التي كانت عملية سرية امتدت سنوات غُيِّب عنها الناس، وحضرها فقط ممثلو الكنائس الست وممثلو وزارة العدل، بالإضافة لممثلي بعض الجهات الأمنية. مما أفضى إلى عدم استجابة مشروع القانون للأزمات المُعلّقة والمُتفاقِمة التي عانى منها المسيحيون الذين كانت أولوياتهم أن يتمكنوا من التطليق والزواج مرة أخرى، وأن تتمكن النساء المسيحيات من تطبيق المساواة في الميراث، وأن تتمكن الأسر المسيحية من التبني. ولكن أتى المشروع بقواعد تقنن الأوضاع القائمة بالفعل. 🟠 ولم يخلُ مشروع القانون من بعض المكتسبات، أهمها تفعيل المادة الثالثة من دستور 2014 لأول مرة، ضامنًا بذلك المساواة في الميراث بين النساء والرجال والاحتكام للقواعد المسيحية في تعيين الورثة. وكذلك فتح القانون باب الانحلال المدني للزواج –رغم كل التحفظات المحيطة بمدى إمكانية تطبيقه العملي- وغيَّر ترتيب الحضانة لجعل الأب في المرتبة الثانية بعد الأم مباشرةً. 🔗 اقرأ الورقة كاملة: tinyurl.com/52ehjzs8

For the first time since the 1967 occupation, Israel is expelling an entire Palestinian neighborhood in Jerusalem. The Silwan area, located near the "Holy Basin," the Temple Mount, and al-Aqsa Mosque, is home to many archaeological and historical sites of exceptional significance. As of April 2026, approximately 1,800 residents in Silwan are under threat of expulsion, after hundreds have already been uprooted and left homeless in the past two years. In Baten al-Hawa alone, 33 families have already been expelled, and 53 additional families, including 130 children, face a similar fate. In al-Bustan, Israel has already demolished 48 homes and plans to demolish the homes of 123 more families, which will lead to the expulsion of approximately 1,450 people.
