In STAR TREK II: THE WRATH OF KHAN, Khan quotes "the Klingon proverb that says revenge is a dish best served cold." But Khan wouldn't even know Klingons existed, or about any aliens at all - he was from 1996, not the future. Conclusion: This film is hack garbage.

‘Cast’ is an irregular verb, and the past tense remains ‘cast,’ rather than ‘casted.’ A number of people and usage guides advocate in favor of extending this to other verbs which are formed w/ ‘-cast’ at the end, such as ‘broadcast,’ ‘forecast,’ and ‘typecast.’
Swell@cinemaxwell

Please. I beg you. Casted is not a word. The word is cast. Jim was cast in the play. Sebastian Stan was cast in The Batman 2. Back in the day, it was a big surprise when they announced that Heath Ledger was cast as the Joker.

The entry to Bel-Air at Bellagio/Sunset is the same since it opened in the 1920s, though owner Alphonzo Bell included gates & guards for years. Homes had "whites only" deeds, common to that era. Bell had another decree: "Not one acre of my land is to be sold to actors or Jews."

@binarybits genuine question: how does *society* get richer? won't corp execs, etc., keep the entire 'windfall' from elimination of jobs (rather than help pay for UBI/etc.), leading to worse inequality? I don't get how $ would be distributed, absent legislation (which wd never pass).

@mnali To unpack this: if we automate 90 percent of occupations, society gets a lot richer, which means we collectively have a lot more money to spend.

@katrosenfield How about the crazy aspect of murder fiction in series? Who would possibly want to continue living in a little hamlet where the bumbling but kindly priest attracts a murder every week, when 1 village over there’s not been 1 in decades?

a crazy aspect of writing murder fiction is readers have such excessive faith in police competence that you have to construct the world’s craziest reasons for crime going unsolved; meanwhile the actual cops are like “yo I flushed the murder weapon down the toilet, is that bad”
Emily Zanotti 🦝@emzanotti

Television and true crime podcasts have really skewed how we think about murder. Most murders aren’t solved. Forensic evidence is rarely used, and it’s not really conclusive. Attorneys like my husband could only *dream* of the amount of evidence that LEO got in this case.

@thekayanova I still have VHS tapes lol. That said, the way forward isn’t to purchase all of our favorite forms of entertainment. The way forward is to become comfortable with not needing to be entertained every moment we aren’t sleep or at work.

Human beings are called to be co-workers in the work of creation, not merely passive consumers of content generated by artificial technology. Our dignity lies in our ability to reflect, choose freely, love unconditionally, and enter into authentic relationships with others. Recognizing and safeguarding what characterizes the human person and guarantees their balanced growth is essential for establishing an adequate framework to manage the consequences of artificial intelligence. vatican.va/content/leo-xi…

We reviewed all assault on a federal officer filings in L.A., Chicago, Portland, Washington D.C. and around San Diego this year. What we found: -- 53% of assaults ended in no injury to an agent -- 38% of all cases have been dismissed or ended in an acquittal.

there’s a lot of psychology going on here i won’t touch but the past 30 years of air travel has been about slowly chipping away at the experience to make them into tubular airborne cattle cars so unless you’re paying a premium it’s not exactly something to look forward to

Trump's Transportation Secretary on how to improve air travel: "People dress up like they're going to bed when they fly... We want to push people as we come into a really busy travel season, help people out, be in a good mood, dress up"

@besttrousers most relevant item from chatGPT: lawmakers’ rationale: to restore balance, ensure that employers share more of the cost of unemployment benefits, and link employer contributions to the experience rating (i.e., employers who cause more claims pay more).

Note the decline after the Tax Equity and Fiscal Responsibility Act of 1982 made it so construction workers pay a much steeper tax rate for unemployment insurance than everyone else.
