@Glenn1792 @PaulTassi There is a story in Marathon that is seemingly progressing each season. I think Marathon is cheaper to maintain because it's less modes and most importantly a modern game built with live-service in mind

What he failed to realised is that there won’t be destiny 3 with the current Bungie leadership. Why do you think they chose marathon over destiny? It’s because marathon is easier to manage compared to destiny. Bungie wouldn’t need to come up with narrative and seasonal story per season/episode. While all they gotta do for marathon is just balancing patches and release timegated maps like how they timegated crucible maps in D2. And selling battle pass and skins (if it’s a thing in marathon).

Cross won't play Marathon season 2 because of this and indicates he's going to turn down future Sony sponsorships. Says he's not declaring war on Marathon but I mean, it sort of sounds like it. @N1nja_Stranded Yeah, this was always the case though. They have to find an audience among younger people (tough sell) and people that aren't chronically online, but still play games. That's how Halo got so popular. Essentially they have to find some of the modern day "bro gamers"

I'ma tell you the truth brother: Marathon has to survive by finding an audience outside of the Destiny community. They just don't like the genre of game it is. Shame, because OG Marathon is responsible for damn near every Bungie game since the 90s
BlameItOnRyen@BlameItOnRyen

Destiny fans might not wanna hear it, but if you really want to see Bungie get a greenlight for Destiny 3 you should maybe support Marathon as opposed to shitting on it and review bombing it.

@KalebPrime @griimae Why not? There's still a lot of very talented people working at Bungie. Marathon is not going to be as expensive to work on as Destiny. The team is only around 450 devs. Destiny at its best has 1000+ devs working on it. It was always a considerably more expensive game

My biggest gripe is the waste of resources, time, and effort it's attached to, and that includes effectively killing Destiny twoo (two + too) and pissing off D2 fans while at it. From the billions spent by Sony to buy Bungie, to the whole art style and dev time only to chase yet another extraction shooter and come to the race in last place. It's fine they wanted to appeal to a tryhard extraction shooter market, it's not fine to spend so much money and resources and kneecap yourself by chasing a small subset of the market. It's like no one learned anything from past "we want the tryhard audience" flops like Wildstar. What did they expect it would happen?

If Sony has no interest in developing Destiny 3, it should consider selling the franchise to XBOX so Destiny can have a future. There’s little value in letting a major franchise sit unused when another platform holder could invest in its growth and keep the game alive. @asha_shar @XBOX @PlayStation

@xMBGx Yeah I think the learning curve for marathon is just over 10 hours , needs a small campaign to ease people into it perhaps. It’s already very easy to rebuild if you know what you’re doing.

I’m confused why everyone is shocked that Sony decided to ice Destiny? there was zero indication they ever wanted Destiny 3. we know D2 is crazy expensive to operate, and had lost most of its players by 2020. it sucks that layoffs are coming, hopefully some can transfer to other parts of Sony. but Bungie isn’t dying. they will get lean and focus on Marathon for 2026 and 2027. I keep saying this, but PS6 is around the corner, and will be a great chance for Bungie to evolve again.

@OhSayLes I don't think it has to pull D2 numbers. I just think it had to pull better than current numbers and actually pull in revenue from cosmetics. I just don't know if Sony will give them the runway for that.

@xseananigans @NuCaloric Idk why anyone would be shocked by that. The game is free to play and the update is free. It's going to pull numbers. The real question is how long do those number stay up.

@NuCaloric I think that's part of it. If Dead Space fans and skate fans can convince EA to make a new game in those series, then I'd like to believe there's a dar where Sony is convinced by fan activity, but there's no way that day is June 9. It's gonna be years down the line.

@CoolRunnerCraig I think a single player Bungie experience would do wonders for the studio reputation and creatively let the devs breathe and really put out something that everyone can marvel at and let it sink in. Bungie has too much sauce man

@Sweatcicle This can still be true though. Destiny 2 crucible was clearly designed to fit in the esports boom at the time and that was something Activision was pushing hard with all of its IP. High Moon and VV made good content for sure, but Activision was a hated company for a reason.

Thousands of upvotes btw. Destiny reddit was always quick to point fingers at activision for greed and bad decision making but they were never the actual problem, and here we are. The game was best when activision was a part of it. High moon and VV made insanely fun and memorable content

@BeastOfTruth How would this be different than a more powerful steam machine? Microsoft already releases games on Steam and most games are multi-platform. Unless Microsoft does a hard pivot back to Xbox exclusives I'm not sure how this isn't more than a branded gaming PC.

XBOX is literally combining consoles and PC into one, giving us access to not only our existing XBOX catalog but introducing gamers to over 100,000 Steam games in addition so they miss out on nothing, something that's NEVER been done before. What can the PS6 do?

@ZayOsirisGaming @DestinyBulletn Their deal was set in place so many years ago and it was for Netease to make Destiny: Rising. At some point in the years leading up to D:R's release Bungie tried to take a more active role in it's development and Netease said no. So then Bungie went fully hands off

@DestinyBulletn This might be controversial, BUT; • Netease & Bungie should’ve worked together — in order to either improve upon the Destiny 2 experience OR make a Destiny 3. I have no idea who was responsible for this generational fumble, but it needs to be studied.

@DestinyBulletn I mean this kinda hints at a limited appeal for the Destiny IP. Which probably feeds into Sony's decision-making. The people in charge of Sony feel like they're prioritizing profitability after Jim Ryan's tenure.
