The 65-year-old man who was flipped eight feet in the air by a bison this month at Yellowstone National Park shared his story from his hospital bed. Carl Isom-McDaniel broke his femur in four places, had surgery and is now recovering at a Montana hospital. “They move faster than you could ever imagine,” Isom-McDaniel said.

Our Affordable Groceries Act isn’t dead. It’s changing tactics. A select few at City Hall blocked our original proposal from reaching the ballot, denying San Franciscans the opportunity to vote on stronger corporate accountability and real action to address food deserts. We’re not backing down, and if we can’t advance every solution through the ballot, we’ll advance every solution we can through legislation. Tomorrow, we’re introducing the first three pieces of a new Affordable Groceries Act to expand healthy food access, incentivize new grocery stores, and reform zoning to bring fresh, affordable groceries to more neighborhoods. We’ll keep fighting for the ideas that were blocked, including stronger corporate accountability — because no neighborhood should be left without access to affordable, healthy food. The tactics may change. The mission doesn’t.

Lucas Lux promised a "free park" funded by private donations and claimed permanent closure of the Great Highway would save San Francisco a lot of money. That promise does not match reality. This slide listed some projects after the permanent closure, but it missed many other related projects, such as the Sloat and Skyline Intersection Improvements, which was completed on 2/26/2025. The Great Highway was permanently closed on 3/14/2025. What San Francisco voters were not told is that permanent closure of the Great Highway redirected city funds and resources away from other infrastructure repairs, safety improvements, and existing parks that serve San Francisco neighborhoods. Now, city funds continue being funneled toward Sunset Dunes, an asphalt road sits permanently closed for a few exclusive users. The Great Highway Compromise works.

The SF Department of Elections is still verifying other petitions. The Great Highway Compromise petition was submitted on July 6, 2026 and Election office has until August 5, 2026, to complete the process. Meanwhile, construction of the Lucas Lux's Shipwreck Cove Playground began on July 16, 2026. The contrast is hard to ignore. Grassroots volunteers collected almost 16,000 signatures, well above the 10,582 required. Yet the citywide effort remains on hold while the verification process continues. Every day of delay means less time for volunteers to organize, educate voters, and build support before the November election. Lucas Lux has significant funding, and the playground project is asking for more money and attention to his campaign. I'm not questioning the need to verify signatures. I'm asking for the same efficiency that City Hall has shown on other projects. Grassroots campaigns deserve a fair process, not unnecessary delays. There's no reason to wait until the last possible day to let San Francisco voters know. Why did Lucas Lux receive expedited approvals?

I am thankful for the backup of SF leaders like @garrytan standing up and calling B*S on some of the opinionists disguised as journalists. For 10 years I interviewed regularly in the Bay Area media, and sometimes beyond. It takes some practice to know how to identify and talk to each type. I made some mistakes, trusting some of them that turned on me. I should probably teach a class for local electeds on this.
