What influences decision making in Iran? Iran’s leadership reflects a quiet competing political thoughts. Reformists push for diplomacy and de-escalation, while Principlists favor resistance against the US & Israel. Though subdued in times of war, this divide still shapes Tehran’s strategic choices and decision making. In this context, Iran is unlikely to be cornered into accepting a lopsided agreement which is perceived compromising core national interests.

Karachi and Gwadar ports should be made fully operational, and Pakistan should shift into the next gear. Pakistan must consider nothing but the national interest when advancing the progress of these ports. Those sabotaging the peace, progress, and security of Pakistan for their own benefit should be put in their place.

Over to Asim Munir. He has to convince the Iranians to take the deal. The stronger side often makes the final offer and leaves. So the ball is now in Iran’s court. They shouldn’t have let it come down to Vance doing a presser of this nature. Because if the Iranians take the deal now then it will be taken as Iran caving in. Also, Vance’s disappointment was visible. Seemed like he really wanted a deal here.
