Today, I was proud to join @SadiqKhan to launch London's bold new Vision Zero Action Plan. Vision Zero is our initiative – with @tfl @metpolice & London’s Councils - to eliminate tragic deaths & serious injuries on our streets by 2041.

Great to see launch of TfL's Vision Zero Action Plan 2. Its strength is that it is about actions (not just words) and the actions cover what's important in reducing road casualties inc. vehicle speeds, safe high streets, enforcement and traffic reduction content.tfl.gov.uk/vision-zero-ac…
Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan@MayorofLondon

It is neither inevitable nor acceptable that anyone is killed on London’s roads. Today’s Vision Zero Action Plan launch at LAS HART Resilience Hub reinforces my commitment to ending road deaths. There is more to do, but every step matters to make our city safer.

New AVZ blog looks at the impact of (drivers who) Fail to Stop - the vast majority of those injured or killed are people walking or cycling. Once again the justice system fails these victims with most offences only resulting in a relatively small fine. actionvisionzero.org/2026/03/12/avz…

Delighted to show @LilianGreenwood & @transportgovuk how we're transforming Lambeth Bridge - formally 1 of the most dangerous junctions in London for cyclists. The @tfl team's delivering a safer road layout, crossings, bike lanes, signals, bridge protection, SUDs #VisionZeroLDN

It's another huge benefit for pedestrians from 20mph in Wales as legislation passed today enables councils to install simplified side zebra crossings at junctions where the main and side roads have a 20mph limit. highwaysmagazine.co.uk/news/local-roa…

Part of our series "Who’s getting hurt on the roads", this blog looks at who tends to get hurt in drink drive crashes. Analysis shows drink driving is a threat to car occupants but is not a lead source of harm to active road users, especially not cyclists actionvisionzero.org/2026/02/20/avz…

The successful pedestrianisation of the Grand-Place in Brussels transformed it from a congested car park into a beautiful square. It now hosts major cultural highlights like the Flower Carpet and the Winter Wonders Christmas market. Brave decisions can transform the world!

This kind of car-centric infrastructure in a city centre is as a relic of a transport experiment that went wrong. Big roads and mega junctions have no place in busy cities. A good step is making crossing them in one go much easier. But it’d be better to remove them altogether.

The James Watt Queensway "super crossing" project in particular aims to improve walking, cycling and public transport connectivity into the city's Knowledge Quarter and Aston University campus. Details: bbc.in/4kH3sxB

People asked if we should have included Covid years (2020/21) in this analysis, so revised briefing of where pedestrian and cycling KSIs occur looking at 2024 casualties only. Pattern remains with vast majority of cycling & pedestrian KSIs in urban areas. actionvisionzero.org/2026/02/17/avz…

In the light of the UK Govt's new Road Safety Strategy, AVZ briefing looks at where pedestrian and cycling KSIs occur (predominantly in urban areas). RSS needs more focus on reducing road danger in urban areas and these v high numbers of KSIs. actionvisionzero.org/2026/02/17/avz…

New AVZ blog and briefing highlights inconsistencies in sentencing drivers involved in fatal crashes. It is very rare for drivers to receive long sentences (jailed for nine years or longer) or lifetime driving bans (which were almost never given). actionvisionzero.org/2026/02/12/avz…
