Netherlands are euthanising children with mh difficulties, learning disability and autism
One teenager was described by his doctor as follows -
The patient described his life as ‘joyless’. He felt very lonely, was deeply unhappy and derived no enjoyment from anything. He was unable to connect with peers and find where he fit in in society, and felt misunderstood by others. He was troubled by the fact that he could see his peers developing while he was unable to put his capabilities to use, and had reached a dead end. Every day was an ordeal he had to get through. As he was oversensitive to stimuli and unable to regulate his emotions, he was very limited in what he could do. He could hardly leave his house at all, because without his mother’s stabilising influence he became overstimulated too quickly and suffered angry outbursts or panic attacks. Life was a constant struggle for him, with no prospects whatsoever. In the final weeks before his death, he lay in bed the whole time.
His not the only case though.
In one study analysis of 66 of 110 cases from 2011 to 2014, by psychiatrist Scott Kim of the National Institutes of Health and two colleagues, Dutch psychiatric patients were often euthanized despite disagreement among consulting physicians as to whether they met legal criteria. In 37 cases, patients refused possibly beneficial treatment, and doctors proceeded anyway.
In seven cases, doctors did not seek an independent psychiatric evaluation, contrary to recommendations by the Dutch Psychiatric Association. - washingtonpost.com/opinions/where…

I have 3 people close to me who suffer from bipolar disorder.
One of them (a team member) tragically took his own life.
He was an extremely talented and normally quiet young man, trained as an accountant.
His symptoms in manic episodes were consistent with Ye’s. He would go on public anti-Semitic and racist rants on social media.
He would always emerge from these episodes with deep shame. Apologising to me, his friends, family and our team for his behaviour.
There was not a bad bone in his body.
One time I had to hunt him down in London in-person in the middle of the night to try to help save his life.
Anti-semitism is abhorrent and unacceptable.
But mental illness is extremely complex and if we don’t have a path for treating and helping people with disorders like bipolar - unfortunately will we have many more people take their own lives.
The UK govt should let Ye into the UK or it sends a very negative message to millions of people who suffer from similar conditions.
Rest in peace Alex - I know you have finally found the peace you were looking and I’m sorry the world could not provide it to you. ❤️

@davidharrywebb @CallWanker @_Zeets Spot on mate. Like Reg Burr said (and could be applied to any club), 'Millwall is a convenient coat peg upon which society hangs its ills'
English

@AdSinistram @CallWanker @_Zeets The worst bit about it is, it's a world problem and we as a nation are lightyears ahead of most of the world in tackling it and intergrating. It's idiots like this that make it an issue.

Premier League is trying to fight racism and Milwall is in the background waiting like Thanos

@CallWanker @_Zeets Why do people always pick and choose which clubs are racist based on their own opinion? No mention of Chelsea, Tyne-Wear derby got stopped for it, could go on. It's a problem throughout the whole country not just whatever club you dont like
English

@_Zeets Leeds and West Ham are already in the Premiership...

I remember also something Pope Benedict XVI replied to a first communicant in Rome who said his parents didn't go to Mass on Sundays. In so many words, the pope said, 'Your parents work very hard all week to buy you food, and clothes and toys. I know they're tired, but tell them the pope says that if they will get up for Mass on Sundays, they might still feel very tired on the outside, but they won't feel tired anymore on the inside.'
At general audience, pope laments ‘fatigue of living’ afflicting modern society

@sickreeves @lys91501 @Marco_Ross_10 is it a common thing for people to have or is it mostly for the rich? About half of the people at the football over here are season ticket holders (more in the PL), ranges from about 250-500 on average. Apparently at Arsenal now its over 1000!
English

@AdSinistram @lys91501 @Marco_Ross_10 thank you!! season tickets here for sports are definitely a lot more (even for shitty teams) and really prices people out which is a shame but that’s us capitalism for ya. cheers
English

@hoosier_cs its peak i have to get there for 9:30 am cus im serving but im working till 2:30am the night b4 lol
English

@sickreeves @lys91501 @Marco_Ross_10 Probably cheaper than US sports but football here and on the continent is a working class pasttime and is more about being there than watching on TV (unless you're a Man United fan from Exeter). Theres a culture of following ur club home and away which costs 100's
English

@sickreeves @lys91501 @Marco_Ross_10 Whole season. 17 home matches per season, at 600 about 42.85 euro per match. Im a season ticket holder in the english championship (2nd tier) and pay about 23 quid per match, but if you buy food drinks etc at the stadium easy to spend about 50.
