Spoke to a bunch of eventtech CEOs over the past two weeks.
3 main approaches:
- Some investing purely in virtual
- Some betting on in-person comeback
- Some thinking that metaverse platforms are the new virtual event platforms

@tojulius I think the learning was virtual 3D environments presented in a 2D medium/display was what people reacted to so negatively. 3D environment in a 3D medium of VR might be different.

One thing that the rise of online events has taught us is the total hate for virtual 3D environments.
If they had a chance to proliferate this was it.
However it doesn’t mean that this could be the future.
Absolutely not with funny avatars. WTF.

I am very excited for the event industry comeback but it’s a bumpy road:
⁃Shortage of workers, driving 💸
⁃Venues with inventory issues
⁃Variants uncertainty
⁃Confusion over hybrid events
⁃Engagement levels at all time low
You can ditch your template from 2019.

Citywide 1st doses tell a similar story though this Saturday is not yet better than the one prior.
7-day pace: 3.2k/day
7-day mix: 81% to Chicagoans, 19% non-residents
No matter how you look at it, it's just not a lot of 1st doses—difficult to grow vax coverage at this rate.

Day 174: Initial weekend figures are reasonably good, all things considered—
7-day pace: 7.5k/day
7-day mix: 82% to Chicagoans, 18% non-residents
Already more doses reported Saturday than last weekend, but still down from the weekend before and still room to improve on Sundays.

The US vaccinations have slowed to a crawl, ~500,000 the past 2 days, worst since the early days of the campaign. Yesterday was not a holiday.

Production values definitely matter but we haven’t seen demand (from the attendees) for advanced features in a platform. But tons of demand for ease of use.
