Talks about importance of engaging with health professionals and Albertans. Had they done this, I don't think we would be doing these reforms in the first place. /6

Watching the press conference on "refocusing" the health system (ie breaking it up into 4 organizations). Primary Care Alberta will start its work today. AHS replacement called Acute Care Alberta will begin work in early spring (later than originally announced). /1

@AntibioticDoc What if the science showed adults pretending to be kids helped their quality of life and lowered suicide rates? I hope people would not advocate for age affirming care and putting adults in elementary schools? Respectfully I’m interested in your thoughts

In case you aren’t paying attention- recent AB legislation criminalizes doctors who provide evidence based care. As did the opiate prescription changes. This is deeply worrisome. So far targets people with opiate use disorder, kids with gender dysphoria. Who’s next?

With so many facts to check last week, we want to comment in follow-up to the AB government statement on pharmacare. We would like to see the evidence behind Alberta's decision to opt out of the pharmacare initiative. (1/2) alberta.ca/release.cfm?xI…

Pretty remarkable how everyone in these photos is well dressed. Let's run through some of the outfits and what makes them great. 🧵

Looks like a clean hit by the Alberta NDP to us: according to the CBC reporting, the UCP didn't even bother to start shopping for a new vaccine distributor until four months after the last vaccine distributor's contract ended. cbc.ca/news/canada/ca…

@gazoo32 @sharib1959 @JenLeeCBC Lol, it was well over an hour the first time we used the pharmacy... They clearly weren't comfortable vaccinating kids, and weren't adequately staffed so the pharmacist kept having to bounce between doing injections and filling prescriptions.

@sharib1959 @JenLeeCBC I honestly don’t know what the “burden” is to drive two blocks to your pharmacy and be in/out in 10 minutes. Meanwhile everyone speaks of the burden family doctors are facing right now. Let’s alleviate that. It was game changing when I could get vaccines @ pharmacies

Alberta family doctors have been told they won't receive flu + COVID-19 vaccines in time for the Oct 15 launch. A memo from AB Health indicates there is no distributor in place. Other publicly funded vaccines impacted (incl pertussis/tetanus) Story👇 cbc.ca/news/canada/ca…

@hansmollman Time to make up a new reason every time. "Syphilis." "Wegener's granulomatosis" "Apoplexy" It's probably a good thing that my kids' school just asks that we let them know if they're not coming in, so they'll know they haven't misplaced them.

Also the school also clarify they won’t be accepting terms such as “ill” or “unwell” as excuses for absence which is a bit like, surely kids deserve confidentiality!!

@drlesleybarron @CanadianKayMD NB's doctors got sick leave in their last contract and I was dumbfounded that I've never even seen it argued for here (or anywhere else tbh).

@Addleben @CanadianKayMD Healthcare workers not being able to provide a service bc of a lack of sick leave and/or a culture that doesn’t promote staying home when sick- is a pretty terrible look for our profession, especially when so much comes down to ppl trusting we are acting in their best interest.

While I am glad it’s a common gastro bug and not an issue that’ll impact PEI’s shellfish industry, this just sucks for all involved. Also makes me suspect someone came to work handling food while sick with a GI illness and *this is why making people work sick is bad.*
Louise Martin@LouiseMartinCBC

We will have a follow up to the shellfish festival, gastrointestinal outbreak tonight. CPHO says Over 550 symptomatic people who attended the festival responded to the online questionnaire with date of illness onset, duration of illness, and information about foods consumed. #pei

@CanadianKayMD I have worked in a hospital that had to close all operating rooms and go on bypass because ppl came to work with a highly infectious GI illness and so many ppl got it there were no staff to run even a single room.

Doctors are warning a messaging void about Alberta's fall immunization campaign could lead to more COVID-19 and flu infections — and increased pressure on hospitals — and it's calling on the province to immediately communicate details of the plan👇 cbc.ca/news/canada/ca…
