Delhi’s chemists told us every 3rd customer is a parent buying respiratory aids for their child. Now respiratory medicine sales have hit record highs as air quality worsens. This isn’t a market trend, it’s a public health emergency. Children are paying the price😢@narendramodi

Rising pollution is driving up respiratory issues; medicine sales hit an all time high as lungs strain under toxic air. Clearly a public health crisis! @PMOIndia @MoHFW_INDIA @JPNadda timesofindia.indiatimes.com/business/india… via @Rupalijee @timesofindia

Someone said India can’t protest. Here is India. The Rajasthan Government is now on the back foot, saying only 0.01% of trees are being cut. Why cut even that 0.01%? Did your father plant those trees? You can’t ensure planting or survival, yet you cut what already stands. A tree takes decades to give the oxygen you erase in minutes. Who gave you this right? Trees are not your property. You are not the owner of the forest you’re only its caretaker, a chaprasi of that jungle.

Move from crisis management to year round pollution control. Focus on source reduction, not just “visibility” reduction. Treat air pollution as a regional airshed problem, not only a city issue. Delhi needs sustained, systemic action!

#WATCH | Delhi: On Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa's statement, Environmentalist Bhavreen Kandhari says, "... Preventive measures are better than the reactive measures, such as what are you doing about the vehicle emissions, construction dust in the whole year... The governance depends on how strong your department is... BS IV is a good move, but our car-centric approach needs to be changed... You will have to create policies that reduce the number of cars... Public transport needs to be strengthened..."

Delhi’s air crisis isn’t caused by ignorance; it’s caused by absence of enforcement. We regulate on paper, not on streets. PUC certificates, committees & photo ops substitute for inspections, penalties & political courage. I wrote this op-ed in a traffic jam for a VIP passage:(

Appreciate a patient hearing Minister @mssirsa inspite of your busy schedule. We look forward to see these conversations translate into action!

Air pollution causes disease and death; the science is settled. 15 lakh Indians died in 2022 due to toxic air exposure. WHO limits exist for a reason. Dr @MarinaRomanello reiterates all. Time it’s heard. Action must follow evidence. @MoHFW_INDIA @mpprataprao
Health Wealth@TheHWChannel

15 lakh deaths in India in 2022 linked to air pollution, backed by science, not speculation. Lancet Countdown’s Dr. Marina Romanello explains why toxic air exposure kills, why WHO limits matter, and where action is failing. This isn’t a data gap. It’s an action gap. #AirPollution

Nearly half the sanctioned posts in pollution control boards across India are vacant, even as cities choke on toxic air. Parliament data shows this crisis has persisted for 5 YEARS. Empty posts. Unspent funds. Dirty air. How long will accountability be delayed?

Paediatric surgeon Dr S. Kulshreshtha had highlighted a worrying rise in birth defects, linking it to air pollution. In an excerpt from the documentary Death by Breath, he pointed to the impact of vehicular emissions on newborns and called it an “epidemic” affecting the future of the country.

#WATCH | Delhi: Additional Professor, AIIMS, Dr Ajay Sharma says, "... We chose 6 districts of Bihar, when we conducted the testing, the amount of uranium was large in the groundwater... We took 40 lactating mothers with due consent. We tested their milk for uranium in the laboratory. In that testing, for the first time, we saw a concentration of uranium in a mother's milk... Some amount of concentration is going to the children... This is a routine study, and there is no need to panic... This can be taken as an awareness... Clean water can be made available in areas facing this problem..."
