I am grateful for President Trump’s trust in me to lead the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. It’s an honor to serve. As @DHSgov Secretary, I’m committed to safeguarding the American people and protecting the homeland. I’ll fight for your family just as I’ll fight for mine. Iranians were told that the decision about their future government would be left to them. They were encouraged by @Netanyahu and @realDonaldTrump to stay home and allow the process to unfold, with the promise that the outcome would reflect their will. Meanwhile, Iranians have been cut off from the internet for the past month. Those in the diaspora—especially in the United States—are facing additional challenges due to the @USCIS USCIS pause that was supposed to last until March. Iranians both inside and outside the country are under tremendous stress. We need help. We need the world’s support. We are your doctors, your engineers, your accountants, your neighbors. We contribute, we serve, and we care for communities around the world. We deserve dignity—and much more. The internet must be restored in Iran immediately. The current pause affecting Iranians abroad must be lifted as soon as possible. These are not policies on paper—these are real lives being impacted every day. Iranians inside the country have been cut off from communication during a time of crisis, leaving millions isolated and vulnerable. Those of us in the diaspora are facing uncertainty, fear, and growing barriers at the same time. We are under immense pressure—inside Iran and across the world. We need support. We need action. The @USCIS hold on Iranian F-1 OPT under PP 10998 is creating a humanitarian crisis on US soil. Highly skilled graduates are losing status & face forced return to a war zone. Day 14/365: @dkhos Iranian scholars are waiting for work authorization despite paying application fees. The pause is costing them their jobs, stability, and mental health. We respectfully ask @USCIS to lift the pause. @David_J_Bier @SenMullin @LindseyGrahamSC @SenJohnKennedy

while immigration enforcement is important, it’s also important to recognize what is happening to legal immigrants. Many Iranian applicants who followed every legal step for green cards, paid fees, passed background checks, and complied with all requirements, are now stuck in indefinite processing pauses with no clear answers. These are not illegal migrants. These are students, researchers, physicians, and professionals who have spent years contributing to the advancement of American society, through science, healthcare, education, and innovation. They have built their lives here, paid taxes, and worked hard to be part of this country. Yet today, their lives are on hold despite doing everything right.
