@thepileus This should absolutely be the price for support, and Burnham would be a fool not to commit to it, as it would win him a lot of support from the Reform bloc as well.

The Green Party should stand down in the by-election, but only if Andy Burnham agrees to bring in PR (if PM).

🚨Full Confidence Klaxon!!! It's a death sentence for Streeting's career.
Steven Swinford@Steven_Swinford

STARMER HAS FULL CONFIDENCE IN WES STREETING KLAXON - from @daisyeastlake Sir Keir Starmer continues to have “full confidence” in Wes Streeting, his health secretary, despite refusing to give him credit for falling NHS waiting lists. The prime minister’s official spokesman said the drop in NHS waiting times was “thanks to the decisions made by this government led by the prime minister". Asked twice if Starmer was proud of the work of Streeting, his spokesman said the progress in the NHS was the result of policy decisions “enacted by the health secretary." The spokesman said the prime minister still has confidence in Streeting and that the position had not changed from yesterday

@nise_yoshimi I do think this must have been Hodges BSing - because how can you be a Labour Press Officer and have a particular announcement come as such a complete shock that you're reduced to theatrics 🤔

Some of us are not Labour MPs but have spent much of our lives working for a Labour government. I am so angry. We did not spend that time fighting for the soul of our party to throw it away after just 2 years.

@GregHadfield Starmer doesn't need the backing of 81 MPs due to the precedent set in the 2016 Chicken Coup - when the Labour Party decided to get rid of its leader...but didn't have a credible candidate to replace him. How times change.

If Starmer stands against Streeting, he'll lose. If he stands against Streeting and Burnham, he'll lose. And, crucially, split the anti-Streeting vote. Starmer may even fail to get 81 votes by Labour MPs. Burnham may fail to win a seat. Therefore, Streeting could eventually win, on a low turnout and a small popular vote. Sounds like how Labour won in 2024....

Thanks to the self destruction of the Tories, Starmer will win the next election as perhaps the most unpopular newly elected prime minister in history. And - let’s put this gently - prime ministers do not tend to get more popular over time.

This coming from a government source. A less supportive assessment of cabinet meeting “Keir said in Cabinet that he wouldn't discuss the elections or his leadership, and that he will only speak to cabinet ministers about that individually. Then after the meeting he refused to see Cabinet ministers individually”

Exc: Row breaks out among 2024 Labour MPs over whether to challenge Keir Starmer, leaked WhatsApps reveal. Natasha Irons: "Bottom line, changing leader because Nigel Farage has forced us to is not something any of us can come back from. Anyone who thinks we can needs to wake up." Peter Lamb: "Anyone who thinks this is sustainable needs an MRI." Laurence Turner: "We get enough insults on our socials. Let's leave them out here." Nesil Caliskan - a whip - says: "This is really rude."
