Reminds me of a story: Had a trio of banger parent wells in adjacent sections. Shut them in for an offset Frac. They got hammered. But the production data was off. I pushed and found out the contract operator never turned lift back on because they were all flowing. I think generally, “damage” is assuming wrongly that the lift parameters for restarting are the same as where they were when shut in. Single zone, with perfs well clear of OWC, maybe. But HZ’s are a system of competing energy flows. The production equilibrium point will vary depending on startup and run sequence. I also think that middle eastern reservoir modeling and production management are extremely sophisticated. At least relative to my domestic experience.

“The wells get damaged if you shut them in” you hear this so much, but what is the technical basis? Sounds like bs to me

@zacurate @grok I made up the Gujarati part. What's in the 10-30% Grok? What's in there?!? "everything that makes the other part useful"

I have said publicly that I don't believe anyone can or will replace Enverus without a massive capital raise. I take it back.

We had to do a site survey with divers at South Pass (redacted) and they asked “how’d yall lose a wireline unit?” And then we had to rent a barge with a big ass crane and “recover” all the shit we threw over the handrail. Divers are special.

@EnergyCredit1 @TFG870 One of those fishing hands Collin was talking about. Would rather shoot his way out of a jamb on 610 than trade hard-earned knowledge for a mediocre salary.

@FracSlap The guy that would drive us to the rig in Venezuela kept a piece in the console. He got in trouble for it at one point, but I slept better on those rides than without.

@patefortworth @girdley How can I trust a man, in business, that would break the trust of his wife. We, as a society, have such a low bar where it counts.

@girdley When I was 24 I got promoted to the trading desk for the fund I was at. Head trader sits me down and had the honesty talk. Part of which was, “if you want to cheat on your wife that’s your business but it’s also my business and you won’t work for me. I demand complete honesty.”

Why old farts like me are so serious about integrity: We know the people who cheat on little things are likely to bend the rules on big things. And that always ends poorly.

@KentGra88631041 @OilyFans Funny, I’m thinking drilling ideally needs a mud system in place that precludes any additional containment. Completion ideally needs a containment system that precludes any specific fluid system in the hole.

@KentGra88631041 @OilyFans I guess I’m really thinking dual-gradient, not true “riser-less”, especially not open loop. Subsea BOPs in place, effective mud column still in place.

There is nothing new here, but a little misinformation. Industry has been trying to make this technology work for +10 years, and the economics aren't there. And to correct one of the bullet points, Once the drive pipe has been driven, the next bit picked up for a 26" casing string. This section is drilled open water, and the following is drilled open water until the 20" casing string with the 18-3/4" HP well head is set and cemented in place. The 18-3/4" HPWH is where the BOPs land. Once the BOPs are landed and tested, the well is buttoned up.
Jack Prandelli@jackprandelli

🛢️ Riserless drilling (RMR) is changing offshore economics. Instead of using a heavy marine riser, it circulates mud via subsea pumps or return lines. • Faster drilling → no riser constraints • Lower costs → simpler top-hole operations • Better well control → engineered mud in weak formations • Reduced risks → manages shallow gas & water flow • Cleaner ops → potential zero discharge • Fewer casing strings → time + cost savings Deepwater used to be slow and expensive. This tech makes it faster, safer, and more scalable
