@JohnJSSoriano Ragebaiting and engagement farming is not a talent marketable for employers and I am befuddled at tpot's efforts to launder Decker as anything other than an extremely autistic socially bereft online writer who writes about controversial topics yet never says anything insightful

Read the Krugman essay on Europe/US gDP I was surprised see that our literacy rates are far below Europe's. What could explain that? So I started following links and found the root source, which says we have a 99% literacy rate: worldatlas.com/society/countr…

@soncharm Oh well I dont think theres any "winning moves" lol. Its just venting frustrations at having lost. And I think there is a colorable "Nuremberg!" argument to be made (i dont make it, theres always some line to draw over what makes something not experimental, etc.). But i get it

Right, of course, but now you’re entering into the frame of whether you can Manipulate the Procedural Outcome of committees and approvals better than those who have hundreds of billions to gain from it. And you have to keep on stopping them every time; they only have to ‘win’ once. Don’t get me wrong, I’m rooting for that side and all. But I don’t think shouting the magic word ‘Nuremberg!’ is likely to be a winning move here

I'm as anti mandate as they come but people who talk about 'Nuremberg' puzzle me Vaccines are regularly mandated for millions of people. Soldiers. Health care workers. Pretty much all schoolchildren in a large number of states. Evidently, 'Nuremberg Codes' didn't prevent this
Valerie Anne Smith@ValerieAnne1970

Dr. Kelly Victory: “COVID mandates were a **GROSS VIOLATION** of the Nuremberg Code.” “The CODE says you MAY NOT mandate, coerce, or use fear of reprisal to force anyone into a medical experiment.” Job loss. School bans. That’s coercion. That’s illegal. They knew. They did it anyway. Never forget. Never forgive.

@soncharm I mean, sure? But they probably also disagreed with the bureaucracy (that then later pushed for the mandates) And its not even a hard case to make. Take for example the attached risk factors from Moderna's S-1. Our bureaucracy changed its course of dealing for the shots

They dotted the i’s and crossed the T’s to get them Approved by the bureaucracy, just like any other vaccine. (This was part of the ‘innovation’ that was Warp Speed.) I understand the intellectual case that they were still, in some theoretical sense, ‘experimental’, but you can’t expect this nuance to sink in to the other Fretful Mommies at the day care who insist that everyone there take it to save their precious 2-year-old. ‘It was approved’

@quirkyllama @LeahLibresco Rooney rule isnt kosher. We just have accepted it for so long and the non-minority coaches interviewing would never sue for social/cultural reasons But nonNFL employers who adopt the practice shouldn't expect the same non-litigation incentives that coaches have from interviewees

@LeahLibresco Is the Rooney rule kosher? If you change "black" to "white" or "Catholic", doesn't that immediately run afoul of CRA?

And because they didn’t realize it was illegal, there are paper trails at many institutions that firmly establish they engaged in illegal conduct. Rooney rule is kosher. Saying you don’t want to hire an [X] is not.
Dilan Esper@dilanesper

I'm not an expert on employment discrimination law so I am not really your source on what will happen in the NY Times reverse discrimination lawsuit. But I can tell you about a broader more "cultural" trend about this issue, which is a lot of people don't realize this is illegal

@aaron_benj87286 @alyssaleann Yeah, like I read nonfiction and my wife reads romance fantasy. I dont police her even though I personally have no interest in that content. I play video games and my wife watches reality tv. Same concept concept. Policing your spouse's free-time hobbies reads very immature

@BradyDale @jessesingal "Food deserts" exist in the unique overlap of (1) high theft and (2) high real estate prices. Which normally excludes actually run down areas but *does include* gentrifying areas of historical poverty Rich young leftists love gentrifying areas of poverty so they see it more

@jessesingal I have always had a hard time with the notion of "food deserts." Like, I lived in real deal North Philadelphia from 2006 to 2012. Rough area. Poor area. But there was plenty of access there. If North Philadelphia wasn't a desert, what was?

I'm a little bit worried this whole thing is just... like, made up? Like certain wrong ideas about why groceries are expensive caught on and are now influencing public policy? And the whole thing isn't thought through? And saying so is conservative-coded so it'll proceed?
Amanda Macias@amanda_m_macias

Mayor Mamdani's plan to open a city-run grocery store is facing pushback from East Harlem grocers, who say the area is already saturated. About 45 grocery stores are within a 35-minute walk of the proposed site.

@woke8yearold Not quite. The boys that would have watched teenage mutant ninja turtles swapped to anime. Sure video games are big, but there is absolutely media being consumed by boys. Its just the western market decided it didnt really want to deliver content for boys

This is the explanation for a lot of stuff that might not be obvious at first glance. For example, cartoon shows became super feminized and "woke" because the boys that would have watched Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles just play video games x.com/woke8yearold/s…
Aleph@woke8yearold

Basically everyone under a certain age plays video games. It's probably the default form of entertainment for boys. Talking about it like some separate nerdy thing that is distinct from tv, movies, music, etc shows you don't actually understand society any more

@spqr_sulla The only assigned "book" (i.e. not textbook) that impacted my worldview was "A Random Walk Down Wall Street" However i assume your question was directed at english/lit courses. In which case the best answer is "A Long Way Gone", but i am not sure it meets your hurdles

@ClickingSeason For "very wealthy kids"? Hell no. For moderately wealthy? Sure. But I can only count a single child of a mid-9 figure family that was remotely impressive that I have ever come across. Intelligence (not education achieved) for children of that cohort is abysmal

No idea what you’re talking about. The children of wealthy parents are on average overwhelmingly more impressive than the children of poor parents on every metric. I’ve been frequently impressed, to the point of sometimes recognizing when I’m outclassed.
𝙷𝚒𝚌𝚔𝚖𝚊𝚗@shagbark_hick

Would this mean that rich kids themselves are a "psyop"? I've met plenty of very wealthy kids, trust-funders, etc, and I've never been impressed. This doesn't strike me as any kind of a contrivance or a conspiracy. It just seems like observable reality.
