#Giants QB Jaxson Dart addressed teammates in a meeting yesterday to discuss his introduction of President Trump last week, sources tell me and @RapSheet. Other team leaders spoke up as well, and Dart and the players worked through it. They are moving forward.

I've said this before but the single best bit of training that anybody who carries a gun should get is Shivworks ECQC, Extreme Close Quarter Concepts, taught by Craig Douglas. I see so much fucking stupid shit repeated online when it comes to armed self-defense, and so much of it would be cured if people actually pressure tested their beliefs. That's what ECQC does really well. You guys know I love guns. I love to shoot. I do so way better than average. I carry everywhere I can, religiously. If I'm wearing pants, I'm most likely armed. But I recognize that the gun is just a tool in the tool box and it's not always the correct answer. In a lot of circumstances its the wrong answer, or its the make the problem worse answer. Or it's the right answer, but the other guy is so close I don't have a gun, WE have a gun. That's what ECQC is for. There's shooting, but it's not really a shooting class. There's lots of places you can go and purely learn to shoot fast and accurate. What shooting there is in ECQC, it's really really close range, like entangled with the bad guy range. There's a reason for that and it's more complicated than you might think. That's where the concept of timing comes in. There are circumstances where drawing your gun puts you at a disadvantage and now you're wrestling for your own weapon. But then I've got to listen to the internet bullshitters go off about how that'll never happen to them because of their super honed SITUATIONAL AWARENESS. Uh huh. Suuuure. But anyways you're in luck, because a big chunk of ECQC is about that, as well as the psychology of human predators, the tells to look for, and what Craig calls MUC (Managing Unknown Contacts) ECQC has a lot of role playing in it. You get partnered up with other students and one of you is playing the good guy and the other is playing something. Maybe an aggressor. Maybe something innocent. But like real life you've got to manage it and figure it out. Then there's a bunch of scenario based exercises using sim guns. These are actual pistols modified to shoot angry little paint balls (which can leave nasty welts!). That's good. When you get hit, learning occurs. This is the force on force part, which I absolutely love. ECQC is way more physical than regular shooting school, but Craig's been doing this a long time. He doesn't just take a grandma and put her up against a D1 college wrestler. He's good at figuring out where the students are at, and giving them challenges accordingly. The goal is learning and improvement. So it isn't just getting beat up for three days (though some of us are into that). I started taking jujitsu because of my first ECQC, where I learned that I'm great at shooting people, pretty decent at punching people, and turned to jello once knocked down and grappled by someone with real wrestling experience. (don't worry, the internet bullshitters will never let anyone take them down, and if they do, they'll just stand up. You don't understand their MINDSET. They see red and and Drowning Pool's Bodies Hit The Floor starts playing) You don't need to be a fighter, gunslinger, or martial artist to get something out of ECQC though. The MUC and scenario based role playing is worth the price of admission. The feedback from the instructors and (often very experienced IRL) other students after your evos is great. You don't just shoot people, but then all the cops and use of force experts in class critique if you would've got charged for it or not. You go over what you perceived and why. You find out real fast how fallible the human memory and eye witnesses are. You look at your decisions and whether you could've made better ones. Whenever I talk about things like hand to hand skills or pepper spray I always inevitably get some dudes posturing and talking tough about how they'd just shoot them. Except there's a whole lot of ground between aggressive nuisance asshole and psycho in clear and objective need of ventilation, tactically and legally. If your only tool is Fucking Shoot Everybody you're setting yourself up for failure in all the non-Fucking Shoot Everybody situations, and the accompanying legal trouble and expense (this class costs the same as an hour or two of a decent lawyer's billable rate). So if you carry a gun and you already know how to shoot okay, I highly recommend taking ECQC to expand your horizons.

For 10 years, women have been allowed to fill all combat roles in the US military. Should they continue or should the positions go back to men only?

ACTIVE MONSOON: The latest seasonal outlook from NOAA is starting to paint a pretty interesting picture for Utah this summer. The July-August-September precipitation outlook is leaning wetter than normal across much of the Great Basin and Four Corners region…a signal that could point toward a more active monsoon season for Utah. That doesn’t guarantee nonstop storms or an end to drought concerns, but it does suggest the atmosphere may be more favorable for moisture surges out of the south later this summer. More monsoon moisture would mean increased chances for afternoon thunderstorms, localized flash flooding, and a little more cloud cover during the hottest part of the season. What really catches my attention is the bigger climate setup developing in the Pacific. We’re heading away from ENSO-neutral conditions and trending toward El Niño by late summer and fall. While El Niño has a stronger influence on Utah during the winter season, it can also subtly reshape the summertime jet stream pattern and moisture transport across the Southwest. After a few quieter monsoon seasons recently, the long-range pattern may finally be tilting back toward a more active summer thunderstorm setup across Utah. We’ll see if the atmosphere follows through over the next couple of months.

I’m at my son’s highschool graduation. Sadly the vast majority of men are not wearing a coat and tie… many look like they’re dressed for the gym. When did this become the norm?

Guys, we are not representing ourselves well in the comments here. I get that Klavan missed the point a little bit, but he also makes a good point. We need to relax. It’s not that deep. We don’t need to be snowflakes.
