Another interesting optimization technique I noticed in Vice City: some of the dock bollards aren’t modeled in 3D, at least not in an conventional way. They’re actually made of 4 polygons combined with a transparent texture.

In Super Mario World, the Big Bubble enemies are just minimally edited and recolored bodies of Big Boos. While this is most likely simply a case of asset reuse, it can also be interpreted as Big Bubbles being a more immaterial, protoplasmic state of Big Boos.

In Super Mario Galaxy, a planet can be seen in the distance in Good Egg Galaxy that should not exist. Attempting to fly to that planet makes it transform into a different one when Mario gets close. This is actually due to a completely wrong low-polygon model being assigned to it.
