@billbowtell Bill made huge contributions to the HIV response over four decades of activism. When necessary, he loved to stir the pot of stifled policy, and he would do so with precise evidence-based language, a wicked sense of humor and a mischievous grin. Vale Bill.

In the chaotic early days of aids, Bill Whittaker saw with clarity and insight that those closest to dealing with the impacts of the disease had to be at the centre, not the margins, of devising and implementing hiv/aids care, treatment, research and, above all, prevention.
