I knew ULIPs were bad. Like really bad. And yet, I still ended up buying one a few years back. Not because I believed in it, but because I wanted a bank locker. The HDFC RM kept forcing that “some investment” had to be done. I pushed for an FD. That didn’t fly. The pitch kept coming back to a ULIP. They started with a much higher number, I negotiated it down, and finally gave in. ULIPs are such poor products that you start investing with an immediate loss. A chunk of your money never even sees the market. Out of the ₹50,000 I paid as the first premium, only about ₹43,000 actually got invested. The remaining ₹7,000+ just vanished into premium allocation charges, commissions, and other fees. In hindsight, I should’ve pushed harder. Or just walked away and skipped the locker altogether. But ULIPs have a funny way of landing on everyone’s plate. Some buy them unknowingly. Some knowingly. Some get cornered into it. I knew better. Still did it. All for a locker. Even for credit cards (like Infinia), there is a ULIP route. Don't go for it. It's not worth it. The money gets locked and generates poor returns. Not worth it even for a premium credit card like Infinia. #ULIP #Locker #ULIP
