Whenever the kids would fight we'd calmly say that our family doesn't fight. Not in an angry, exasperated, scolding or disappointed tone. We are stating a fact dispassionately. Eventually it worked.

@kateiswell Yes it gets you grocery delivery and free shipping for their website, and it got us a free streaming service so it actually net costs us only like $4/month. So I am actually not sure it is cheaper for me to drive 😂

I think we mostly agree, Tom. I am a persuasive writer—making arguments is what I do!
Where I probably disagree is in the idea that we can take the Savior’s words in the NT and interpret that to mean that it’s ok to be intentionally harsh or mock others. Mostly bc I find no sich exceptions being given by our modern leaders and plenty to suggest otherwise from both their words and examples.

Don’t pile on, avoid arguing with people who might be young or more vulnerable than you, don’t take cheap shots, don’t be cruel, know when to stop, take Ls gracefully. For men, avoid talking to women the more forceful way you might to men. Use your real identity.

More and more I feel like I’m on my own. What standards do I teach my kids? Should members still avoid Sunday shopping? Should moms stay home with kids if possible? The answers from other members are often figure it out yourself, pray about it, why would you even ask that.

When we apply scripture stories and principles in the church, we usually apply them to individuals. Like “what are the Goliaths in your life?” or “where am I in the pride cycle?”. Which is fine, but it all seems to crowd out more collective kinds of application.

Visited a healthy church in another state today… While it was sweet to see some families worshipping together, I was grieved by how distracted parents were by their small children. In my view, everyone would have been better served by utilizing the kids ministry.

@TomStringham @JReubenCIark Ehh, I know these guys are smarter than me, but from personal experience in AZ certain areas of the Valley don't cool down at night, not bc of AC, but concrete/rocks/modern landscape. Older areas, like around Mesa temple are noticeably cooler at night bc of grass/trees.

Can someone tell me if being left handed is like natural in a way that can't be changed or if it is something learned? I'm just wondering if my daughter might be left handed but like isn't using her left hand because I'm right handed and have been teaching her to write that way.

@JReubenCIark Anecdotally, kids at BYUI get married as undergraduates; it's increasingly less common in Provo. Also, rent is cheap in ID. Rexburg is my preference for my kids.

I hear this a lot from other rw homeschool families, they want to send their kids to BYU-I because they think BYU is libbed out. I think these concerns are overblown, it's still overall one of the most conservative unis in America but I won't criticize anyone for based-maxxing.

As someone who lives outside of Utah, I can say that there’s a growing worry about sending kids there. I’ve had many conversations with my husband about this, and we are both BYU alumni. We have a son currently attending BYU but the realization has not escaped us that we felt more comfortable with our kids at SVU. Part of it, I’m sure is the fact that SVU is closer to home and we can “keep tabs” on our kids better when they’re only a couple hours away. With that said, we have multiple friends who have lost multiple kids after sending them to Utah. It happens frequently enough that it does cause worry and alarm, and that feels really sad to me.

@julieheglund I'm going to stick up for parents. I was at a week long youth activity where much of the youth dress was shocking, especially bc I knew the parents. On pick up day I realized kids were wearing underclothes w/o clothes over. Parents can't stop that.

I didn't follow Charlie Kirk much before he died, but in retrospect it seems clear he spent a lot of effort trying to keep disparate parts of the right together, which is part of why things broke apart when he died. The MK interview felt like Vance trying to fill the same role.

All in all, I think Vance is doing a great job under incredibly difficult circumstances, absorbing proxy blows from people too cowardly to criticize Trump directly while keeping the seams from bursting open on a coalition that *wants* to crack up. He doesn't have to and shouldn't pander to any of these factions throwing tantrums, wherever they come from. The unreliable parts of the right have revealed themselves and they are not electorally meaningful. He just needs to stay the course. Walk the 8th fold path.
