Pecora Award has celebrated individuals or teams using satellite or aerial remote sensing and making outstanding contributions toward understanding the Earth. Who comes to mind when you hear innovative work, impactful research, and dedication to Earth observation? Consider nominating them for this prestigious honor! William T. Pecora, a geologist, served as director of the USGS from 1965 to 1971. During that time, he was instrumental in the creation of the Landsat Program, which led to the establishment of the USGS EROS Center to support Landsat data distribution. Nebraska Wildfire Update: The Morrill Fire, has grown to a staggering 454,000 acres and is burning across 5 counties. Just insane growth for a 24 hour period. The Cottonwood Fire North of Curtis has been mapped at 50,000 acres. The Road 203 Fire growth has slowed, and was last mapped at 37,500 acres. And the Anderson Bridge Fire is sitting at 6,000 acres. Out of state resources are arriving to help out, and local resource continue to surge to protect property surrounding these massive fires.

Nebraska wildfires ripped across the landscape last night, with the pilot who sent these images in saying they mapped this fire at 72 miles long. The Road 203 Fire south of Halsey was mapped at 36,000 acres, but could be larger this morning. Multiple wildfires were active through the night and evacuation orders went out for many rural communities. Insane views of these fires. Thanks to the subscriber and pilot who shared these incredible images of these Nebraska fires.
