This UAE move spotlights the UK government’s reluctance to ban the Muslim Brotherhood, despite a 2015 review deeming its ideology contrary to British values and repeated UAE pressure since 2011. Under PM Keir Starmer, officials keep it under “close review” without action, allowing unchecked Islamist speakers and events on campuses amid doubling radical referrals. UAE views Brotherhood networks as terrorist threats promoting sharia extremism via student groups. It has non-recognized UK degrees, making them worthless for UAE careers, slashing their appeal. It has once again opened the debate on UK inaction and soft stance in allowing Islamist networks to thrive unchecked. This is tarnishing the UK’s global reputation as a safe education hub and driving away top global talent.
