@mehulmpt No. You can do a better job than YouTube with proper x265 parameters. Since Youtube no longer gives you AVC stream by default (1080p AVC on YouTube is horrible anyway). Speed and resource? YouTube wins. But quality? YT can't beat software encoding since they are using VP9/AV1

@PLyczkowski @_rubeki You still have to cut 30% to the distribution/retail anyway because that always the case for years. So, 30% for a platform that have 20-30M CCU and 6-8M in-game. And if you are big enough, you can negotiate the cut to 25% or 20%. Not to mention, generating Steam keys are free.

@_rubeki If you think they provide servers - they do not. They do stuff like matchmaking (for peer to peer), lobby systems, authentication, and storage for stats or leaderboards, which is nice, but not 30% nice IMO

I used to think Steam’s 30% cut was unfair and was all like 😥🫢🤨 But then I learned that they basically provide free multiplayer services to devs. Then I was like 🫶🤝🫡
