@awesomekling I agree with almost all of his points. AI does help you in a lot of ways. But the point about headcounts implies that layoffs are inevitable. He says that they expect autonomous agents to effectively be a substitute for people which me feel really sad , whether its true or not.

@LiveOverflow exactly, as a complete novice i feel AI isn't and can't be 100% reliable for at least 2-5 years. there is so much foundation that humans have that only they can impart the nuance of things. However for getting the major 70% done AI is just really fast for research and summarizing

I don't know anymore how to do education "properly"... For 95% of the problems, the answer is just "ask AI".
Feels like AI makes me 10x more efficient and 2x smarter. But I still need a really good knowledge foundation to be able to steer the AI and also recognise hallucinations

@Captain2Phones or the best , go back to the dual tone panda design. some of my favourite looking phones are those pixels and the oneplus 7 pro of 2019 , both the hardware and the software. material you doesn't hit the same for me although it definitely is bolder and more personal

@Captain2Phones the only reason i like some of the renders is that it reminds me of essential ph1 and i really liked that phone's design even if it was minimal . i'd loved for them to add more character to this tho while still keeping the design aesthetic .

Incredibly disappointed with Google for (apparently) abandoning a distinctive phone design for an unremarkable, ugly one.
I keep waiting for people to realize how much overlap there is between "minimalist" and "tragically dull."

@zack_overflow exactly , i feel if everyone only built software that are trendy , like building AI tools right now and web before, eventually you lose people who actually know the fundamentals. not everyone needs to know but if you're interested , i think you should do it just for the fun even.

They learn Rust/Haskell or build compilers, not to impress you, but because they have a genuine love for programming and learning new things

Warning to young technologists: there is a kind of person who is motivated to learn tech as a way to impress and gain cool points amongst other technologists. Maybe not knowingly, but subconsciously—they are socially motivated. They know Rust, they know Haskell, they only use vim, they build compilers on the weekend, they only run AI models locally, they have fine-tuned a model that underperforms GPT4 in every way possible, they keep their GitHub squares green But many struggle to deliver real products and value 10-20 years down this path. They grow weary of the career, and sometimes quit. They feel did everything right, why weren't they rewarded? The "cool chips" cannot be cashed in. They evaporate, and then you're left with very little. Just go and build things that are useful or entertaining—that's an enduring skill. [Sure learning Assembly and C can be helpful, but I know many people who have built great things without doing much of either]
