Two weeks ago we had solar panels and a battery fitted. We have just completed our first full week with the system.
Our electric bill for the week commencing 10th March 2026 compared to the same week last year has dropped by 71% from £31.71 to £9.05.
We also have not received our DNO cert yet which would allow us to sell back into the grid. On sunny days our battery has been full by 11:30am meaning we don’t yet benefit from the excess free energy being produced.
We are now going to buy an electric car and fill it with free energy.
If only all of the UK could do this, it would go along way to reducing the countries high energy costs.

@agile_phil how will off-peak EV charging limit work for customers with solar PV feeding vehicle during day? e.g. when zappi charger plugged in to utilise surplus home energy production. Overlapping slots set by 🐙 but no power actually drawn from grid…

I'd like the thank @OctopusEnergy and all the team for listening to concerns about the 6 hour limit.
I enjoy using Intelligent Go as Octopus decides when it's greenest to charger.
Now, taking the feedback into account a slider will be added so you can limit your charge to 6 hours we can all feel reassured only offpeak will go into the car if that's what you want or need.
Leaving existing customers on the old rate regardless if they fixed is also a much appreciated touch. (Even though i fixed lol)

So the day has come and @OctopusEnergy has changed their rates. These are now live on their website. The new offpeak rate on IOG for NEW switches will increase to 7.5p per kWh and for GO 9p per kWh. There will be a 6 hours limit of offpeak from your vehicle each night BUT this won't start until around mid March for everyone. @agile_phil confirmed they are working on the app and the changes won't be in place by St David's day so the 6 hour limit is on hold for now. BUT possibly by mid March there will be a slider which will easily allow customers to limit their charge to 6 hours max. It is at this point the new rules will come into effect. (The house still gets offpeak too) The slider will give reassurance customers won't accidentally charge at full price unless they want to. You'll be in control and can decide if you need to go over 6 hours. I think it's amazing they've listened to feedback on this!! It feel reassured i can still use IOG as intended now! There's slightly more to come on another tariff. I know a few of you will be interested in this one too but you'll need to standby for that. RECAP So if you are already on Go or Intelligent Go your offpeak rates will stay the same and NO 6 hour limit of offpeak for the vehicle is in place yet. That'll be maybe Mid March and the app will have a slider to limit the charge time to 6 hours if needs be.
