I was deeply saddened to learn of the untimely demise of Asma Begum, a dedicated sanitation worker of the Cuttack Municipal Corporation. Upon hearing the news, I visited the hospital and met her bereaved family to offer my condolences. I have urged the administration to provide appropriate compensation to the family and to consider employment for her son. My thoughts and prayers are with the family during this difficult time. କଟକ ମହାନଗର ନିଗମର କର୍ତ୍ତବ୍ୟରତ ସ୍ୱଚ୍ଛ ସାଥୀ ଆସମା ବେଗମଙ୍କ ଅକାଳ ବିୟୋଗ ଖବର ଶୁଣି ମୁଁ ଗଭୀର ଭାବେ ମର୍ମାହତ। ଖବର ପାଇବା କ୍ଷଣି ମୁଁ ଡାକ୍ତରଖାନାରେ ପହଞ୍ଚି ଶୋକସନ୍ତପ୍ତ ପରିବାର ବର୍ଗଙ୍କୁ ଭେଟି ସମବେଦନା ଜଣାଇଥିଲି। ଏଭଳି ଦୁଃଖଦ ସମୟରେ ପରିବାରକୁ ଉପଯୁକ୍ତ କ୍ଷତିପୂରଣ ସହ ତାଙ୍କ ପୁଅଙ୍କୁ ନିଯୁକ୍ତି ଦେବା ପାଇଁ ପ୍ରଶାସନର ଦୃଷ୍ଟି ଆକର୍ଷଣ କରିଛି ।

This shocking visuals were captured today, 18th April 2026 (Saturday), from a residential area located right beside Barbil Railway Station. What you see is not ordinary smoke or fog — it is a massive, thick cloud of coal dust billowing out during loading and unloading operations at the Barbil Railway siding. The dust is so dense that it completely engulfs the surrounding area, covering homes, roads, trees, and people living just a few metres away. For years, the residents of Barbil — especially those living near the railway station and siding — have been forced to breathe this toxic, iron-laden coal dust 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Children, elderly people, women, and daily commuters are inhaling this poisonous mixture every single day with zero effective dust suppression from the Railways or the siding operators. This is not an “operational issue”. This is deliberate environmental negligence and a serious public health disaster.
