@mbateman Unlike some physical risks, which can build confidence for children, social media’s danger was purpose-designed in a vacuum to target dopamine release in the brain, unlinking reward from effort, detaching experience from reality.
Not good or natural for developing brains!

Are you confused and frustrated each time you need to give your child fever or allergy medication, not knowing how much to give?
I made an app, KidDose, that tells you the right dose by weight with 1 click:
- Tylenol
- Motrin/Advil
- Benadryl
- Zyrtec

@chrissyfarr Don’t “blame” or cite the baby as a reason you can’t do something with the older one. Ex: “I can’t read to you right now because your sister needs to feed.” Just say you can’t do it right now but will be able to in 30 min.
English

@RohunJauhar People toss around age 2 because it’s a median for when it’s no longer comfortable for kids to be rear facing depending on size. The real range is much wider than that, since each kid is different. Bottom line is rear facing as long as it’s comfortable.
English

@markjenney What do you wish were different about your kids’ pediatrician?
English

@markjenney Great concept for sure. Also great to have kids practice making pitches if they want something (like getting a pet for example). Learn to persuade, logically present, answer questions, and take on responsibilities they designed themselves.

@jason_howerton Sorry you’re going through this. It’s such a scary thing to watch. If, however, it’s a Simple Febrile Seizure, evidence shows no long term sequelae and he will be just fine (does have a 30% recurrence rate before he turns 6 though). Sending you guys good vibes.
English

I love you for this. Truly. Our son had a seizure. Don’t really know much else. Hopefully, the more common toddler kind.
Gonna follow up with specialists. But that was the (second) most terrified I’ve ever been in my life.

My youngest son is in an ambulance on the way to the hospital. Don’t know what’s wrong but something seems very wrong. I’m asking you to say a prayer for him. He’s only 2. This isn’t performative. I believe in the power of collective prayer. Please say a prayer for my son.

@chrissyfarr @seanduffy True innovation at scale will always be limited as long as we have to think about care along the lines of insurance codes and reimbursement.
English

🚨New Second Opinion🚨
I teamed up with @seanduffy to analyze how many of the 9k+ Category I CPT codes are "clinically feasible" for virtual care vs. brick & mortar. Spoiler alert: It's v. few.
So what should be the right balance going forward?

@Monkiejens Totally agree, we need real providers to build in this space. Fellow doctor entrepreneur here. Would love to know what everyone is working on!

@qhardy @chrissyfarr I was just thinking Downton Abbey must be responsible for quite a few kids named Violet 😏
English

@chrissyfarr I see. I wonder if he was testing positive as a carrier. But regardless of academic curiosity about repeated COVID infections, the actual experience of all this must have been so crazy. I’m glad it sounds like he’s on the other side of it now.
English

@AskDoctorAmy The first time was by far the worst. No panel but this reason time came right after a natty bout of Hand foot and mouth so l think his immune system was a bit down
English

@chrissyfarr I remember being surprised to find out, while in pediatric residency training, that there were basically only 2 baby formula brands in the US.
English

@healthcareandy That it’s about patient care.
(Many individual providers are. The “system” is not)
English

@FahdYK @SahilBloom Yes we do. It’s true that a 24 hour shift can have down time, it’s just as likely to be “on” the whole time.
While it’s true that there can be some continuity benefits in following a critical pt for a long time, mostly it’s just more expensive to hire 2 doctors for that shift.
English

@SahilBloom 24 hr shifts are only done by residents not licensed physicians. I would be surprised if a resident is delivering your baby without the supervision of the on call physician.

Perhaps the epitome of elite human performance is motherhood - growing then sustaining life. The most ordinary, extraordinary miracle.
Happy #MothersDay to all the elite performers.
English

So true. We need time to think deeply about patients and make sure we do it right, safely and effectively.
Christina Farr@chrissyfarr
Digital health has gotten a lot of negative attention. We need to slow it down. Invest smart, not fast, double down on fundamentals. Growth at all costs was never going to work.
