Why doesn’t someone take all of the medical papers on Sci-Hub, dump them into an LLM, rip off the “safeguards,” and build the world’s best doctor?

@mbateman Unlike some physical risks, which can build confidence for children, social media’s danger was purpose-designed in a vacuum to target dopamine release in the brain, unlinking reward from effort, detaching experience from reality. Not good or natural for developing brains!

Some of the very same people who decry the anxiety-driven emotional and physical padding of childhood, who are on the front lines of advocating for independence and unsupervised play, are eager to lay down as many guardrails as possible around social media for children.

Are you confused and frustrated each time you need to give your child fever or allergy medication, not knowing how much to give? I made an app, KidDose, that tells you the right dose by weight with 1 click: - Tylenol - Motrin/Advil - Benadryl - Zyrtec onelink.to/kiddose

Kid has a fever? Here’s what you need to tell the pediatrician: 1. How many days? 2. Highest temperature? 3. What other symptoms are they having? These 3 points help you have a more productive conversation with the triage person or pediatrician.

@chrissyfarr Don’t “blame” or cite the baby as a reason you can’t do something with the older one. Ex: “I can’t read to you right now because your sister needs to feed.” Just say you can’t do it right now but will be able to in 30 min.

@RohunJauhar People toss around age 2 because it’s a median for when it’s no longer comfortable for kids to be rear facing depending on size. The real range is much wider than that, since each kid is different. Bottom line is rear facing as long as it’s comfortable.

[parents of twitter] when is the right time (age, weight, height) to put your child forward facing car seat? does the risk of injury increase if forward facing?

@markjenney Great concept for sure. Also great to have kids practice making pitches if they want something (like getting a pet for example). Learn to persuade, logically present, answer questions, and take on responsibilities they designed themselves.

Want to turn your kid into an entrepreneur? Here’s a great tip👇 My friend told me about something he does with his daughter and I thought it was genius. I loved the concept so much I’m now doing it with my kids. If you have kids you may want to consider doing this too. 🧵

@jason_howerton Sorry you’re going through this. It’s such a scary thing to watch. If, however, it’s a Simple Febrile Seizure, evidence shows no long term sequelae and he will be just fine (does have a 30% recurrence rate before he turns 6 though). Sending you guys good vibes.

I love you for this. Truly. Our son had a seizure. Don’t really know much else. Hopefully, the more common toddler kind. Gonna follow up with specialists. But that was the (second) most terrified I’ve ever been in my life.
Jason Howerton@jason_howerton

My youngest son is in an ambulance on the way to the hospital. Don’t know what’s wrong but something seems very wrong. I’m asking you to say a prayer for him. He’s only 2. This isn’t performative. I believe in the power of collective prayer. Please say a prayer for my son.

@chrissyfarr @seanduffy True innovation at scale will always be limited as long as we have to think about care along the lines of insurance codes and reimbursement.

Random… but I find baby name trends to be such a fascinating look into our culture/ society. We are all picking great-grandparent names in an effort to be unique, but now those names are trending. Meanwhile popular millennial names are moving sharply downward.

@chrissyfarr I see. I wonder if he was testing positive as a carrier. But regardless of academic curiosity about repeated COVID infections, the actual experience of all this must have been so crazy. I’m glad it sounds like he’s on the other side of it now.

@chrissyfarr I remember being surprised to find out, while in pediatric residency training, that there were basically only 2 baby formula brands in the US.

Has anyone done a deep dive on the infant formula market or want to for Second Opinion? Seems like there's massive consolidation there -- and right now, we're facing a shortage that's frankly terrifying for new parents.

@FahdYK @SahilBloom Yes we do. It’s true that a 24 hour shift can have down time, it’s just as likely to be “on” the whole time. While it’s true that there can be some continuity benefits in following a critical pt for a long time, mostly it’s just more expensive to hire 2 doctors for that shift.

@SahilBloom 24 hr shifts are only done by residents not licensed physicians. I would be surprised if a resident is delivering your baby without the supervision of the on call physician.

How is it that doctors are allowed to work 24-hour shifts? We restrict the number of hours that a truck driver can drive for safety reasons, but a doctor can work around the clock. What am I missing?
