Itโs encouraging to see academics talking openly about โhow the sausage is madeโ re publishing. Discussing quality of content and relevance is difficult but more possible when shiny distracting metrics are set aside and mutual shaming to provide free review labour is put on pause

Potentially unpopular opinion: reviewers should stop saying that a paper "should be reviewed by a native English speaker". If a paper is completely unreadable: say so, if you have specific suggestions: say so. Peer review is not about forcing authors to write it as you would have
