Navi turning green over nothing in the original Ocarina of Time was one of its smartest, quietest systems. To this day, many people seem unaware of why she would do it and many ignore how it could work in the remake. In the N64 version, Navi would occasionally fly off and change colour over spots that looked empty. If you followed her and played the right song, a secret or big fairy appeared. It was the game’s way of rewarding observation without ever holding your hand. The Nintendo Switch 2 remake should take that hint system and expand it. Different ocarina songs could trigger different kinds of environmental responses across Hyrule. The Song of Storms in certain locations might temporarily alter water flow or reveal hidden routes. The Sun’s Song near specific ruins could make time of day elements interact with mechanisms that were always there but never reactive. It would make the world become more responsive to the music and instrument you've carried from the start. The original’s soul lived in that quiet trust, it assumed you would experiment and notice small things. Building on Navi’s green light this way would keep that spirit while giving players more to discover in a modern version. A safe visual pass would look impressive on Switch 2. But it would miss the deeper opportunity to make Hyrule feel like it still has layers worth hunting for. Would you want an Ocarina of Time remake to expand those understated observation mechanics and make them more expressive with the ocarina? Or do you think any change to the original’s subtle systems would lose more than it gains? p.s. Follow for more thoughts on what an Ocarina of Time remake. Add me on Switch 2: SW-4504-4427-4511

@REDY0TA I do have a case! Just the official Nintendo one, but I brought more games than slots 😅 I used to take Skyrim everywhere on Switch 1, Cyberpunk is a bit awkward when I’m playing in social areas lol

Back in the hotel room after another work day and honestly the Switch 2 is just the best console for travel. I’ve been through the full handheld line Game Boy, DS, 3DS, heck even Sony's Vita. On this trip the Switch 2 just clears all of them. The screen holds up, the battery lasts long enough, and the real win is having this kind of variety in a single bag. I’ve got Xenoblade when I want something deep. Star Fox for quick missions between meetings. Mario Kart when I need something lighter. Metroid Prime 4 and Donkey Kong Bananza are right there too. And Nintendo Switch Online means I can drop into Game Boy Advance classics whenever I want an old school portable hit. And when I get home and use dock mode, all these games spring to life in real 4K, HDR, surround sound and buttery smooth framerate. It's like a welcome home upgrade. This spread on the bed is basically my entire rotation right now. What’s the one Nintendo game or setup you never leave home without when you’re travelling or working away? p.s. Follow me for more Nintendo love! I take back what I said about the hotel Wi-Fi being good but add me on Switch 2 for some Star Fox Battle Mode when I get back: SW-4504-4427-4511

@ShawnD1984 Oh really? Have a look in the settings to see if you have it set to charge to 80%. It's generally a good idea these days to stop charging batteries past 80% for longevity but you can change that in settings

@AussieGamr Mario Kart World, for sure. It's always the go to whenever I take it over to someone else's house. Especially the kids will ask, "Can we play Mario Kart?" If they see that in brought my Switch 2. Even if I don't have my dock, we'll set that up in tabletop mode and play!

lol I’ll jump into online battle feeling confident after taking down Andross on the hard route and then… boom, respawn. 😂 it’s still really really fun. Nintendo sure has a way of introducing a new mechanic and pushing it beyond expectations. You are right about those colors! Going from the browns and purples of the first level to the tropical colors was shocking in the best way possible. Then having hidden things everywhere… I start to feel bad for the inhabitants lol holes and craters everywhere 😂

You gotta remember the original launched on Wii. So when you play it, it's a massively huge open world with a very rich story. On Wii. It's been updated quite a bit but the Wii connection is probably what makes it seem a bit outdated or "small", but it's a very addictive series. Are you into JRPGs?

@HicksCutte2363 I find ROG Ally too bulky to move around and the reliance on good internet connection is a bit annoying sometimes. Love that I can play PC games on the go with that thing though, just wish it wasn't so chunky. What Xbox games do you like playing portable?

@AussieGamr I actually prefer my ROG Ally to use Xbox Play Anywhere but I also love Nintendo so no hate coming from me. My preferences in gaming have changed in the last year (always was a Nintendo-first person). I'm at least thankful Nintendo will always keep the gaming ship afloat.

I have a random one that I forgot to bring on the trip but I'm thankfully not doing anything touristy... office all day, hotel room all night, so there's power everywhere. I did get stopped at the airport and questioned why I was travelling with a console, 2 laptops, 2 phones and a bunch of cables tho 😅

Absolutely! I always loved that there was 2 consoles - one for bigger games at home, one for smaller gameplay on the road. But the fact that we can have our cake and eat it too is incredible. I do kinda hope they go back to releasing some smaller games, having that portable mentality produced some amazing titles

I'm staying in a Melbourne hotel for work this week and honestly the Switch 2 (and Star Fox!) has been keeping me in a decent headspace. I can fire up Star Fox for a proper console style session between meetings or while I’m in transit. It genuinely feels like I’ve brought a bit of my normal setup with me no matter where I am. Star Fox is perfect for this kind of quick, portable gameplay hit. You can jump straight into a mission, make real progress, and put it down without losing momentum. It’s become my go to reset on this trip. Anyone else using the Switch 2 (or certain games) as their portable comfort zone when they’re traveling? p.s. Follow me for more Nintendo thinkery. The hotel wifi is surprisingly good so add me on Switch 2 for some Star Fox Battle Mode tonight: SW-4504-4427-4511

It's ok to eat bad when you're travelling, right? Over breakfast I'm thinking about Ocarina of Time coming to Switch 2. One of the most exciting parts of the Ocarina remake for me is how well its core systems should suit travel and portable play on Switch 2. I’ve carried the Nintendo 3DS edition through plenty of trips over the years. What always made it work was the way the game lets you explore Hyrule Field at your own pace, follow Navi into quiet details, and use ocarina songs to shift time of day or open new paths. Dungeons reward short bursts of focused puzzle solving and backtracking without demanding hours in one sitting. You can make real progress on a single objective, put the console down, and return to the exact same world state later. The remake has been described as bringing stunning visuals and updated designs while keeping the timeless gameplay intact. That combination should make the observation and experimentation even more rewarding on the Switch 2 handheld screen. Dense areas and subtle environmental clues should read with greater clarity, and hopefully the performance should keep the exploration loop feeling responsive even in shorter windows. I’m already looking forward to the next trip where the remake is ready to go in the bag. The thought of losing myself in Hyrule’s systems with modern fidelity on that screen feels like exactly the kind of portable experience I’ve wanted from the series for a long time. What part of Ocarina are you most looking forward to experiencing fresh on Switch 2 once the remake drops? The ocarina mechanics, the dungeon puzzles, or just wandering the world again? p.s. Follow for more thoughts on how the Ocarina remake and other legacy titles could play on Switch 2. Add me on Switch 2 because I'm sure Nintendo will shoe horn multiplayer features into Ocarina 😂: SW-4504-4427-4511

Don’t worry I suck in battle mode too 😅 Elliot is fun but I can’t stop comparing it to Zelda, and it just doesn’t have that level of exploration and polish. Maybe it doesn’t need to, but it is very Zelda-like. Donkey Kong is … yep, mind blowing. I thought it would feel repetitive but it’s so much fun to just smash everything and all the colours and craziness is something else

I’m jus gonna say it: I’m ruined by Zelda. These sorta of games always kinda get under my skin when you go into a dungeon and there’s a ginormous room with nothing in it. Theres a bit of that in Elliot, it’s like it’s striving to be similar to the Zelda experience but falls well short. However, if you’re not a massive Zelda fan (I am) and don’t obsess over game design (I do) it’s still a fun game. I just think the issue with it is that it feels like a “poor man’s Zelda” sometimes. I want to finish it before I fully judge it though, there’s definitely a lot of fun in it when you stop comparing it to Zelda lol

The Star Fox mouse pad just turned up on my desk and I’ve already caught myself smiling at it a couple of times today. I’ve been with these games since the SNES days, and having the whole team there in their flight suits while I’m sitting here writing and thinking about the series feels... right. It’s the small things like this that quietly remind you why an awesome Nintendo series still matters decades later. What’s the one piece of Star Fox (or Nintendo) merch that’s made it onto your own desk or setup? p.s. Follow for more Star Fox love! Amazing thoughts there it would be so cool for them to expand on that lore a bit, fairies in the series are as mysterious as anything else… I kinda see a possibility a Zelda game starring Zelda who actually goes around finding out more details about these characters rather than defeating enemies

I think the fairy lore is open ended enough to include a character arc of growth for her. When the game was made, her existence was almost strictly bound to to Z-targeting and "navigating" players when zelda transformed to 3D, it's literally in the name of the character. They actually wanted to give her a humanoid appearance with wings but that wasn't possible. Nintendo has made a bunch of companions like the red Boat King in Wind Waker and Midna as an emotional sounding board and part of the story. Now, they can change the type of fairy. She's a guardian fairy, but is treated like a wild fairy whose simple reason to exist is to fly in a fountain and dissolve her energy to heal the link. Navi is wise and knows everything about the land. She should get a more prominent role. Perhaps she'll accompany Link, and when she leaves at the end, it has a meaning, namely to become a great fairy? That, together with a more fleshed-out interaction with Link, she could turn into a rounded companion. I often see people wish for this unicorn fountain. Maybe that could be a Navi-centric location where she'll tell link a few fairy secrets, while solving a mini dungeon in that location?
